I wish I could have made it to the service. I do remember selling Gary's Craft Audio gear back in the 80's, it was good stuff and went nicely with Lambert speakers.

Thanks for that, Owen.
Although we had never interacted, and had no reason to, I enjoyed reading his posts and of his products. I note from that that we were born in the same year (I wonder what month?). Having experienced an older uncle's funeral / memorial service in 2019, and my mothers a year ago, I kind of wish that they had been recorded.
Morbid perhaps but ultimately - if not, who else will? - to plan for one's own funeral, for the music, video projection & etc. is likely good.
Just a few minutes into it, felt impelled to post! ;=})

I heard recently that Gary was unwell and I'm very sad to hear he has passed away. Such a fantastic guy to deal with and a loss to the audio world. RIP Gary and my condolences to you family and friends.

Much thanks from me too for posting that Owen. Lovely service. I completely forgot he spent time in Whangarei, my home town. We meet just as he was getting Craft Audio up an running and I came to sell his amps from my shop in Whangarei along side Plinius.

I was lucky enough to be able to go up for it (courtesy of an Air NZ credit from not going to AXPONA Show in last year where I would have been in a room with Gary's gear) It was also good that we were on Level 1 as at level 2 there was talk of only 50 attendees.(2m spacing in a small church) Usual thing with funerals, you find out all sorts of stuff about the person you though you knew. Like I hadn't realized he had just about been born with a soldering iron in hand. The story he'd told me was dropping out of Uni, getting a job on the production line at AWA and then getting rapidly shoulder tapped to do his trades cert (in an era when AWA were making the Series 9. (my first amp))

If we weren't meant to eat animals then why are they so tasty? Would you try synthetically-grown meat? I never met Gary, I only came across his products as a tech in NZ. He was certainly so talented and I’ll miss his highly informed posts on this forum. I always wondered if I’d meet him at some stage, but alas, not now....gone too soon.

Thanks for posting the service, Owen. I am truly shocked and only found out today. I remember the test he posted on audioenz so we could test how many watts we were using. Made me realise I was using just over 5w of my 8150 at the time. The ensuing conversation was really how many watts he was going to put into his next amp. He was going to finish some Lii Audio speakers, which we were eager to hear about as well. Rip Gary.

Is PureAudio still in existence? Their web page hasn’t been updated since before Gary passed, and Soundline, the NZ retailer, no longer lists any of their products. Nor has their FB page had an update since 2020.

My understanding is that Ross Stevens and the other Pureaudio directors are still trying to sell the business or IP. But at the moment nothing is being built. I have now purchased the rights to The Wand EQ variant of the LV-1 phono stage and am about two to three weeks away from receiving new assembled PCBs from a NZ PCB assembler that will let me re-start. I have added 'Electronics design; Gary Morrison' on the serial label and a dedication in the User Guide so at least there is some on-going product in his memory.

What a nice nod to Gary and all his hard work over the years! I have one of his phonos and it does the job nicely. I dear say the product would still have a following and a lot of people may not know he has left for other pastures and purchase based on prior reviews

Will be a tragic if they can't find a buyer / collaborator as Gary's amps were just getting better and better. But in this Covid age I guess it is difficult for anyone offshore to come and do due- diligence.

Such a shame if Ross et al can't keep the business going without Gary.
I've had various Plinius/Pure Audio gear over the years and enjoyed my time with them all.

Indeed, it will be a great loss to the Hifi world if PureAudio ceases to be. Especially since I had started saving for one of their products!

Another touch of sadness, John McDonald, long time audiophile and PureAudio director passed away on August 12 2021 I've known John since the 1980s when we used to hang out in Manawatu TV and Sound, later on he became a director of Plinius and then a director of PureAudio. Recently he had traveled to the South Island and we were to get together when he got back, he was on a journey to find new speakers. Last email I got from him was that he was feeling poorly but would contact me the following week.
