Shelter 501 MkII, recently re-tipped by Soundsmith. Have left the loading at 47k for now, based on previous recommendations and experience with the Jarrah.

great cartridge. i ran one into my jarrah too. 100 ohm at my old house. 47k when i moved to a newer built place. i've played with the loading on my pureaudio vinyl and 47k wins every time with a variety of cartridges. gary is pretty good at designing phono stages

you don't get a cheap PA Vinyl but we finally get a worthy successor to the old plinius jarrah.
Been listening to the LV-1 (Little Vinyl 1) for a few days now and my first impressions are of a dynamic open phono, clean and clear sounding. Mightily impressed so far. Minor problem with grounding easily solved by addition of a larger washer on the ground terminal. Presentation is more upfront/forward, immediate than what I am used to with my Sugden Masterclass PA-4 phono (which is often criticised for being too laid back!). When I get around to it, I'll plug the old Jarrah in and see how the progression sounds. It may not be a "cheap PA Vinyl", but based on how the Little Vinyl sounds, the full PA Vinyl version certainly offers a temptation I may not be able to resist...

I did indeed. Main system is ML Summits, McIntosh C2500/MC302, Aura TT with Dyn505/Wand 12+/SME3012R, EMT JSD6/Kiseki Blue NS/Lyra Dorian mono, Sugden Masterclass PA-4, Gram Slee Elevator EXP What does the Vinyl offer michaelw over the LV-1 at three times the cost? Granted law of diminishing returns etc

hi cliff,
i've only heard an lv prototype but there is a family resemblance to the sound, both are warm, engaging and musical.
the vinyl is quieter with blacker backgrounds, it produces a slightly larger sound field, with better focus and immediacy, has slightly wider bandwidth, and is maybe a touch more neutral.
i'd say the gap between vinyl and lv-1 is smaller than the gap between the old plinius m14 and jarrah.
if you can afford it, the vinyl is worth every dollar of its rrp.
if i didn't have a vinyl, i could happily listen to the lv all day long.

Thanks for that.
In reality I couldn't justify the RRP so would only be after a secondhand Vinyl. But for some Strange reason owners don't seem to want to give them up!

yeah, i know the feeling.
back in the old audioenz days when plinius was still based in palm nth, i returned the review samples of koru and m14 to the factory. they had 3 x nos m14 sitting in the corner gathering dust, i was interested as the m14 was a much better phono stage than the koru, so i asked for a price. a few days later i was told i could have one at near enough to original retail !
stuff that !

They are a Taiwanese company. Pure Audio Labs. They have used just the Pureaudio run together on their one and only product. I have asked them to change it to include the Lab which is part of their company name. They replied briefly with an email that didn't even have a name to it. I don't hold high hopes. On the other hand when we launched we were a little ahead of PureAudio Project, and they used a logo initially with the words Pureaudio run together. I contacted them and Z'ev was kind enough to make a change so as to avoid confusion in the market. All that is required really. Impossible to Trademark as there is a digital radio company in the UK using the name "pure". That was enough to make any trademark application a waste of time I was advised.

With a few more weeks under the belt with the LV-1 I haven't had a great urge to switch back to my Sugden PA-4 phono, which I think says a lot.
However, my initial preference for 47k Ohm loading is gradually being superseded by the 475 Ohm load setting with the Delos. There was just too much edge in my system when loaded high, despite the wonderful open sound. I'll run it lower for another week or so with a few carts to get a better feeling for it at this loading.
Needless to say, I continue to be impressed by this little phono!

I have always loved the form factor & they are looking better than ever. Does the pre-amp auto sense input like the integrated? I tend to have multiple sources running at the same time & use the preamp to mix between them at will. Never quite got my head around how that would work?

While the original Preamplifier autoswitched its inputs the current model doesn't, and the ONE Integrated has always had push button selection. The auto selection worked well but it was a difficult feature for customers to understand... So we bent to the will of the market. 😊

Talking about a teaser...
"So how does the ONE sound in my system? In Part 2 of this review, I’ll give you the details on how this amp takes listening to the level of being an experience. Watch for Part 2 to be published soon."

On reflection, particularly impressive that it sees off two good Nelson Pass amps in this context. A different story if the reviewer had been using an amp with the subtlety and weight of a US V8 Ute....

isn't the pass a variant on the us pickup ? my one is two years old and still amazes with it's musicality. it produces a lot of heat and i wish it had a record output but it still gets enjoyed daily.

Interesting choice on the speaker binding posts Gary. I'm assuming it is because of they are low mass and offer sonic advantages. Would WBT not have been a better choice with bananna connections as well or are the Cardas that good?
