This has been a frequent evening listen lately - Belgian jazz singer takes some unexpected turns. 'All my love' is a cracking end to this album, all of which may be streamed gratis on Sounclound. soundcloud.com/melanie-de-biasio/sets/no-deal-3

RAIME - Tooth I've been listening to this album for about six months now, and I think that its sounds best late at night

Music to lurch to work to- Cream, Wheels of Fire. Ginger Bakers mum must have voiced the little Grado GR8 IEMs, his drums fair explode but dont overwhelm. Been listening to this record since its release but still manage to pick up little nuances that have escaped my ears before.

Youn Sun Nah - Voyage Only wish she didn't do that Waits cover. Its just not different enough to add anything new.

Youn Sun Nah - she's genuinely improvisational. And uplifting.... I'd like to find some new vinyl.

Over the weekend, some local sounds to match the nice weather: Then Mr Eno, buggar can do no wrong in my book: Should've concentrated more on a music session, rather than the train wreck the cricket turned out to be. f.

Spinning Bats vinyl now.
Looks damn well scuffed up but so far any noise is hidden under the music.
Lovely sound reminiscent of the Bats finest underground beginnings.

All that wall-to-wall close harmony should mask out the odd surface glitch (I have The Law of Things, Fear of God, Compiletely Bats.)

Picked up The Trials of Van Occupanther by Midlake over the weekend on a whim, and absolutely love it. 60’s/70’s West Coast vibe ( America not Greymouth ) slightly psychedelic with lots of close harmonies. If I was starting a crackpot cult this would be what I'd be listening to as I did my planning.

West Coast vibe ( America not Greymouth ). Funny. My 10yr old was proudly telling me he's discovered Snoop Dogg, after the initial panic subsided (Snoop is a much tamer beast these days) I got to telling him about the early days of Snoop and the West Coast sound. 'Is Snoop from Hokitika?' He asks. ...I shit you not. He's a simple wee lad.

These days Snoop is Dogg again & he hangs with Martha Stewart: Seems 'Lion' didn't really take off... There's a doco on Netflix on the topic which I've yet to get round to watching... As for Martha, she's OG and done the time to prove it...they been peeps for a while.

Home alone last night, so time for some nostalgia. Started with disc 2 of the Pink Floyd DVD set of the Pulse Concert. Then dived into some good old country, followed by some blues, all on vinyl First up Dwight Yoakam, on Guitars & Cadillacs, (Reprise 1986) love those bouncy rythms - played the whole album. Next, Poco, Legend. (ABC Records 1978). My first listen to this group, must try again as I gave up after three tracks. Poco seem to be well regarded, but I was slightly underwhelmed. Then John Denver, Back Home Again. (RCA 1974). Nice simple tunes and great melodies. Blues, had a brand new album by John Mayall, Tough. (Eagle Records 2009). Hadn't played it before. Brought back memories, his style and the music hasn't changed much over the years. Which got me delving and I found John Mayall's Blues Breakers, Crusade. (Decca ffrr 1967). Some famous names here, Mick Taylor on lead, John McVie on bass, Keef Hartley drums, Chris Mercer tenor sax and Rip Kant on baritone sax. And John of course doing his usual jack of all trades with voice, organ, piano, harmonica and bottleneck guitar. The old records surface wasn't perfect, but remarkably near silent after all the years. It confirmed John's style hasn't really changed. I really enjoyed it. Bit late to bed, and the bottle of red was almost empty! A good night.
