No Man- Love and Endings. This has rapidly moved onto my desert island list in the last few years. I keep hoping for more releases from them but Mr Wilson is very busy with his solo career and remixing every 2nd 70s prog reissue it seems. Tim Bowness has released three excellent lps since the last No Man record but his collaberation with Steven Wilson just moved things up another notch.
All the Blue Changes, a particular fav, enjoy the way it just keeps building the tension.

Some records become in-bedded in our dna and Aqualung has stuck in mine since release. Spent a pleasurable couple of hours comparing a flat transfer of the original to the new Steven Wilson remix (BR audio) which to my ears wins hands down. Original USA vinyl, Steven Wilson remix vinyl, Classic Records 4 x single sided on clear vinyl, 2 x 40th Anniversary deluxe(lp,cd,dvd-a, br) and adapted 40th in smaller book form with similar digital content to the deluxe editions.

Brian Jonestown Massacre: Pish (Mini Album Thingy Wingy)
Pretty standard fare from Anton & Co, but standard fare for this guy is still better than a lot of artists at their peak... 25yrs and still entirely relevant. That's some feat.

Your candidate for Father Of The Year is currently enduring this... And hoping I'll get to play this... Which I picked up yesterday at the Warehouse... Couldn't resist... You know, you can lead a horse to water and all that... A lifetime of great music for my kids. They were singing along to Frank Zappa in nappies and now, as they reach an age where they start exploring music for themselves, they dive right into the Pop Machine, beaming wildly as they do so... And you can't discourage their exploration - can you? ...this using Dads system bit scares me a little too... Hmmmm...

In his SL-1200G TT comparison, I have to thank Michael Fremer for pointing out Harry Pearson's Songs of the Auvergne recommendation, the Vanguard early 60s recording sung by Netania Navrath. I've had Kiri's Decca ECO LP (NZ copy from new), but spotted both on ebay, 'nr mint' English copies for reas prices - 10 days later they're here: They're right, this is the real deal

Re Rolling Stones Blue and Lonesome. I got this as the vinyl pre order which arrived just before Christmas. Virtually unlistenable recording. It sounds like the whole band squashed into a room with everyone cranked up loud and all feeding into each others mikes. Its a horrible mess. One of my favourite party tricks over Christmas was to play it back to back with their first album and watch everyone be amazed at how clearer, punchier and better produced their first album was. A suitable bookend for their career and a suitable demonstration that they couldn't give a toss what it sounded like as long as it sold truckloads. Rant over.
Re Then play On. Hi Simon, yes I got the vinyl box set with Kiln House, bare trees, and another one whose name I cant remember. The singles came on a 7 inch 45. Great album.

found one in a secondhand shop many years ago. the cover was in fair condition, the record was unplayable with numerous deep scratches. gave it away.

Best Rolling Stones album for decades I read in a few places that the vinyl wasn't so good. Edit: Ah, just read guitardudes post which confirms this too.

I have Blue & Lonesome on CD, I do not now if it sounds any better than the LP . I have to admit it is not recorded that well but still enjoy it a lot better than a lot of the newer boring stuff . After a few beers I can enjoy badly recorded stuff .

That answers the question about Blue and Lonesome then, so I need to be drunk to enjoy it ? NB I don't think theres anything much wrong with the pressing as it came with the digital download which I gave to a mate, sounds much the same on CD as LP: Dreadful. Haven't listened to any of the Rolling Stones actual albums since Some Girls so unable to say how it compares but their esrlier stuff is quite well recorded.

I did not mention getting drunk but you are right it is a dreadful recording. I am in my 60s and my hearing is not as good as it was ,which was probably never that good and my system is probably not up to snuff ,no turntable only a server and a d class AV amp . The up side of this is I can enjoy dreadful recorded music Last night
