WEGA Audio - made in Germany in the 70s. Nice to see something bolder & different from silver or black.

Very nice, classic styling. The rotary dial on that Sansui (also featured on Sony-ST80F, ST-88 etc) was recently "re-imagined" by 47 Lab, on their "Midnight Blue" 4730 FM Tuner.

WEGA was later acquired by SONY.... very possibly that's where the Sony WEGA TV name came from (?)

Another from the 'they don't make 'em like they used to' file.... They don't make hi-fi anymore with 'picture-framed' solid wood chasses like this - mid-late 70s AKAI.

Thanks, yes indeed, Dieter Rams' designs for Braun (60s-70s) were iconic for Braun.

i liked those by why did they put inputs/outputs on the sides ?

Post by cartridgeguyonline on Apr 26, 2019 17:27:11 GMT 12
Shorter signal paths ? Was all the rage at one time, Pioneer and Sony also did this, but I think Lux did it most awkwardly when they put them underneath ?

Oooh that volume control looks the business ! Stepped attenuator ? Is that the same Lyra that makes the carts ?

Looks like Input selector & Volume control concentric, on same knob. Lyra-Connoiseur, yep.

yep, best volume control i have ever touched stuffed full of very nice shallco resistors. designed by the same Jonathan carr who designs the lyra cartridges. sadly production stopped in 2007, a victim of ROHS excellent discussion here, with j carr's participation www.diyaudio.com/forums/solid-state/62998-lyra-connoisseur-4-2l-se-masterpiece.html
there was a matching phono stage too
mr fremer had a listen back in 2002

Really needs a non-resistive vol pot IMHO

i find using a well designed stepped attenuator to be a very satisfying experience

Some rough cabling on that M12... Input ICs jammed between hot heatsinks, CAT speaker cables bent into bananas with no strain relief.

I had purchased a lyra connoisseur 4.2 line preamplifier about 4 years or so from a friend in Aust who knows Jonathan very well. It had been sent to Japan for updating to the very latest specs only to get a call to say... Houston..We have a problem! I wont go into the ramblings about that here but needless to say I was very disapointed. It could have been repaired but there was no guarantee. So I decided against the purchase in the end and went with the Absolare. There in lies the the issue with alot of vintage and older gear..If it decides to have health issues they can be terminal.
