apparently it doesn't sound that great but as a feat of hi-fi engineering it is unparallelled.

apparently it doesn't sound that great but as a feat of hi-fi engineering it is unparallelled. Seen one, heard one being demo'd, when on my OE many many many moons ago.In a shop difficult to gauge sound quality really, but definitely Drool worthy. Was fitted with an SME 3012R, IIRC, but can't remember the cartridge etc, mostly because the rest of the gear was unknown to me then, and the $$ involved beyond my comprehension.

Dual 701 Direct Drive TT (c. mid-70s) - some inspiration for Graham maybe..... (I'm sure he doesn't need any.)

I need all the inspiration I can get ! Good to see someone appreciates the vintage Duals. I had plans to make up a nice solid plinth like this for my 721 but it is now sold to a very happy new owner. Graham

IMO this qualifies as vintage audio porn. Thorens TD125 with SME 3009 and Shure V15III. Next year this turntable will be 50 years old and may outlast and outperform all of us.

Flaky ? Heard that some of the original ones had some transformer issues (due to being changed to 230v ?)

yes, this small 60w integrated has had a transformer fixed, tubes replaced, rca wiring repaired.
still works fine, especially into big boxes like proacs.
build quality is more like old ps audio than audio research.

That interesting thanks MW. Jadis are not a brand that seemed to travel this side of the cook strait, so I've not seen or heard one. Read plenty of reviews on them though, seem to be a very well respected brand, cct based on the Quad 11 IIRC ?

build quality is more like old ps audio than audio research. I like that it's hard-wired. Underside wiring looks good, traditional & tidy to me. I like the heavy solid copper Ground buses.

i'm unaware of any quad influence in the design. jadis are usually class a push-pulls, except for a couple of set models. this one was originally from hong kong and runs 8x kt90 output tubes. when it's working it can do things a quad II can only dream about another gratuitous photo below

Another of those brands I've coveted from afar. Which Prozacs do you use with it ?

currently in use at another household with prozap response 3.8 they sound better with boxes than panels.

Read plenty of reviews on them though, seem to be a very well respected brand, cct based on the Quad 11 IIRC ? They are quite rare down under but I did see one or two in Melbourne. The JA-80 as a typical example has a triode cascaded differential circuit that doesn't have much in common with the Quad II circuit which is based on EF86 pentodes.

Speaking of tuners (elsewhere here), this sweet round-dial Sansui design (from 1970) is worth savouring again....
