Possibly inspired by the compact classic Sony ST-88 (& matching TA-88 amplifier) from '67....

more classic sony... in gold i had one of these and at the time it was a great sounding cd player. well built, with fine ergonomics, complete with onboard diagnostics and automated laser alignment that could correct mistracking dvds.

pyramid power. not. maybe because they chopped the pointy bit off the top or maybe it was the pseudo carver magnetic field effect power supply but these things sucked big time.

Like those 70's Yamaha's, I've always liked the early NAD designs, a similar aeshtetic , the 3030 Amp, and 7045 and 7060 receivers for example.

wags my tail.. though not so deep down, I would still take the 600 series components over the Stasis amps.... and steal the RX-505 from this

My favourite Aiwa deck, the top of the line F990. It had automatic everything. It had Dolby B, C, HX Pro, auto bias setup, dual capstan, 3 heads, and capable of being controlled remotely. Probably what inspired me to look into programming microprocessors in the first place.

Long ago and only a Z-5000.. the baby of the trio. It was OK. Massively built, heavy and solid, but still only a single capstan 3 head. I didn't think it was much better than my old V-800X, which as far as I can remember had the same transport and display, but lacked the calibration facility. The Z-6000 and Z-7000 were the ones to get.
