My circa 1984 LP12 serial number is on a label affixed to the rear of the TT.
Just realised that the $3500 start price isn’t the reserve! Say $1800 tops for a one owner Valhalla LP12, sans cart, in perfect condition, more likely 12 - 1500 , the cart would have to be near new to be worth around $4K.

We would presume that this is a Scotland-made LP12 - as it looks like an imported walnut plinth. All such LP12s should have a Linn Products label on the rear, with ser. no. Here's some early ser. no. LP12s that had older split-counterweight Ittoks: (It looks like the early 'Mk 1' Ittoks lasted only to around early '80s.)

An early serial number labels, fixed to the bottom plate and rears with fluting, without labels "Q.It looks in nice condition - and fitted with a good cartridge too. How old is the deck, has it had any of the Linn upgrades that have been introduced over the years, and is the stylus in good condition? Many thanks. alyndiver (23 23 positive feedback) 10:29 pm, Thu 11 Jul A. Yes it had the Valhalla kit fitted. It’s approx 25 years old Not had a lot of use. Cartridge is fine 7:22 am, Fri 12 Jul" 1982 May, Valhalla crystal driven electronic power supply made standard.[38,794]. So that makes it pre-1982, at least 37 years old. 1979, Lid prop removed, hinges changed to spring loading. [27,000]. Ittock produced from 1979-93. Trade Me one doesn't have the lid prop holes on the plinth, so between 1979 and 1982? The clear lid's likely a newer addition as they were only introduced in 1986.

Wow, that's an old LP12.... - 1972-74 - SS bott plate (not hardboard). - pre-Valhalla - pre friction hinges - pre-just about everything

Sweet deal @$3000. Very tempting to place a bid at that start price! Yup, missing a Linn Sondek in your collection?! At least ask for some more pics - of the rear, the tonearm....

Sorry Owen, was referring to Dean's complete vinyl setup. Not interested in an LP12. Used to have a Linn Basik TT, and have heard enough LP12s to know that I don't want to own one

Oops that's not a SS bott plate, it's the SS top plate with rubber cap on main bearing.

Someone has placed a bid on the LP12! $3K, reserve not met. Had a look at the bidders feedback, and he seems to be a muso, having sold some very nice guitars, and knows his Hifi, having sold some nice Musical Fidelity amps, and in 2012 sold an LP12 with a Rega 300 arm on it. Must know what he is doing!
Michaelw, the very same model receiver was recently listed for sale on the Retrotronics website, refurbished by Fred and with 3 mth warranty, asking circa $650!

Alyn Diver. Maybe MW knows him as he's from PN. The $3500 bid is within 15% of reserve, so maximum reserve is $4375, might be less.

Oh good luck to him, I don't begrudge anyone trying to make a buck but I do note it's gone from being ok condition to a gorgeous example in those few days, photos would suggest the fomer is more correct. I recall the original seller user name from the Audioenz days?

Yes, mevunky was on AEnz, I think they were connected to a Hifi store in Michaelw home town. I bought a pair of Dynaudio Audience 85s from mevunky.

yes, mevunky was at image audio many years ago. long gone form the audio industry.
the reseller seems to have a quick and dirty tidy up, notable restoring the back lighting albeit with a modernesque blue hue rather than the original natural incandescent glow.

I'd love to audition that set of Tannoys.

I've spent many an occasion listening to (DIY built) Tannoy GRF Autograph corner horns, & the bass reproduction never did it for me. Also a pair of modern-built Tannoy 15" GRFs with no-holds-barred cabinets & crossovers. However I've always liked the sound of their Dual Concentric tweeter concept - excellent phase-coherence / imaging. It's difficult, I think, to get a big heavy cone to also do crisp/fast midrange - IMVHO. The best tannoys that I recall hearing were 12-inchers in a plain-Jane small rectangular, factory cabinet - fast & agile paper cones. Dave Whittaker built 2 pairs of those huge GRF Autographs but I remember preferring the airiness & openness of his 3-way 15" Wharfedale Airdales.

Sondek/Ittok./Koetsu sold for $3390 it seems. Odd, as the bidding (from Palmy) went to $3900 reserve not met?

So....now the mint..not so mint 401 in plinth with arm has a buy now of $5012 with a very reasonable $4010 start... And....theres also a rack in Oak [low table] that could support 15 concrete mixers,Airforce 1 and 3 sacks of used coffee beans] for a very fair $5500... Crikey! Seems there is fun looking at Trademe after all..lol
