Citroen Fleetwood Mac greatest hits is an excellent sounding compilation. Shame about the music Standard Australia 1988 version. Sounds OK, a little soft in the low/mid bass

Picked up a few LPs on my travels over the break. These two look interesting. inner Fires, the Genius Of Bud Powell, Elektra Jazz Masters Series, E-1-60030, a 1982 remastered reissue of a 1953 classic, featuring Charles Mingus, bass, and Roy Haynes, drums. Had to have the Big Bopper Chantilly Lace LP when I saw it, a nostalgic nod to my inner 15 year old, the age I first heard this music way back when! A reissue by Pickwick/33, SPC-3365. Jiles Perry Richardson was his real name, and he died in the same plane crash that took Buddy Holly and Richie Valence. Unfortunately the LP does not include The Purple People Eater song which tickled my sense of humour at the time. And of course it was all about the beat!

Not quite op shop or score but seen in a 2nd book shop in Wanganui two copies of LZ Physical Graffiti one for $225 and one for $125. Didn't bother checking their condition but the cheaper one looked pretty beat up on the jacket. Optimistic seller?

Not op shop but private/garage sale. Got a box load of records a while ago but only just cleaning some of them now. Two were the only jazz in the collection but what great finds Art Blakey And The Jazz Messengers – Child's Dance, Prestige Germany Albert Mangelsdorff/Lee Konitz – Art Of The Duo, ENJA Records, Germany Mussorgsky - New Philharmonia Orchestra/Charles Mackerras – Pictures At An Exhibition/Prelude To Khovanshchina, Vanguard Roy Harper – Stormcock, EMI/Harvest All in excellent condition (Mussorgsky sounds wonderful but unfortunately gets stuck in one place, even though it looks perfect there).

Not music, but a book - Oxford History of NZ Music. $1 at the hospice shop. Nothing in depth, and nothing about pop/rock. Chapters about Māori pre and post European contact; songs and instruments brought by whalers, sealers and explorers; Early settlers; growthof concert hall entertainment; influence of the piano, and later the player piano on home entertainment; introduction of recorded music; early opera productions, etc. Interesting!

Not exactly a score, but I had to drop off stuff at a Hospice Shop in GI (Glen Innes, Akld) & couldn't resist wasting valuable pre-Xmas time burrowing through the Mantovani & Ray Conniff.... BIZET: Carmen (highlights) - I have full boxes & Highlights, don't ask why I needed this (German) TCHAIK/SIBELIUS Viol Conc's - I have half a dozen of this celebrated 1970 recording & always pick up any clean ones (WRC NZ) BRUCH: Viol Conc 1 & 2 - I have just a few of the No.1 conc. but not Menuhin, which I believe was well regarded (WRC NZ) STRAVINSKY: Petrouchka & Firebird suites - a punt on Giulini/CSO (WRC NZ) Look clean, $3 ea, I paid too much

I don't think I've ever heard of Bizet's Carmen described as depressing - rather, ' passionate', 'romantic', 'emotional'....

Found this in an Op shop in Petone Musically a bit blah like most Telarcs but look at these grooves ! Not an 1812 cartridge buster but a good workout all the same.

Got the bass drivers flapping ! There's a few spots of noise but not bad for $2

It’s a disease, this record collecting! I haven’t been able to listen to music for some time, but still compulsively check out the op shop bins whenever I’m in town Was in Kaitaia yesterday and in the Sally Army shop found two boxes. Ended up buying five for a total outlay of $4! All in tidy condition, record surfaces appear unmarked and lightly played, but are being added to the pile waiting for US cleaning. Will listen when I get my hearing aids!
1. Schubert, Trout Quintet, Maura Lympany & principals of the London SO, Classics for Pleasure CFP 40065, 1974. Had been exploring more of Schubert before I went deaf. Did once own a copy, don’t remember the version, but must have sold it in one of my culls several years ago. 2. Janos Starker, A Cello Recital with Gerald Moore, WRC issue on Record Society label, AZ 68. Originally recorded 1960. Still have hopes of finding a copy of his Bach Suites one day. 3. Rita Reys Sings, The George Gershwin Songbook, arranged and conducted by Roger Van Otterloo. 1975 recording, in London, CBS 80580. 4. Academy of St Martin in The Fields, Marriner, “Jubileteumuitgave”, concerti grossi by Gretry, Bellini, Loeillet, Telemann, Vivaldi, Albinon, Manfredini, Avison, Albicastro, Torelli, & Locatelli. Holland pressing, Decca 6745 001, two LP set, 1981 on the LP label, and 1973 on the Dutch language intro. 5. Three LP box set, “A Baroque Festival” , Marriner, The Academy of St Martin in the Fields, Concertos by Vivaldi, Bach, Corelli, Handel, Fasch, Telemann & Arne. Argo D69D 3, 1977 issue, but individually recorded between 1964 and 1976.

I'm sure most Auckland op shops have access to Discogs and price accordingly!

I'm sure most Auckland op shops have access to Discogs and price accordingly! The Hospice op shop in Kerikeri do the same, boxes of overpriced LPs that don’t seem to sell much from. Did buy a box set of Bach chamber music for $10 once, but from time to time a gem can be found in the $2 boxes.

$150 for that Elton? Really!!! I've probably got at least 2 copies of that. Time to sell?

Going by that Discogs is seriously under valuing my collection .

Post by RdM on Mar 3, 2021 21:12:26 GMT 12
But will they sell at that price, despite the nicely printed (removable?) labels?
I'll be hanging on to my Weather Report 8:30 and several other LP albums of theirs.
Or they can go to my estate. ;=})
