Ah Mr Citroen, You don't have Children do you ?
The point being that there are no savings, as any money saved on vinyl purchases are offset by any other miscellaneous offspring expenses. When exactly do Children stop costing me money ? It certainly wasn't when they left home !

Both left home many years ago...but that doesn't mean that they dont still have a line into my wallet and I'm a soft touch. All I ask is that they repay me with the occasional visit with a dram or two if the old folks home claims me.

A couple of weekend follies The Flying Burrito Brothers- Gilded Palace of Sin. This is the new reissue on the Intervention Label which is getting very good reviews. I do have the earlier 4MWB reissue, nice pressing but a bit bland musically so hoping the new one is a nice step up. Not a FBB fan except for this debut record which just manages to push the right buttons. www.analogplanet.com/content/flying-burrito-bros-gilded-palace-sin-finally-reissued-correctly#7gSIMui1drFL1ai6.97Some how buying that led to a search on Discogs for another long term wish list item, Tramp on Your Street by (Billy Joe )Shaver. Vinyl copies of this aren't easy to track down and the Classic Records repress can go for big bucks so I was chuffed when a seller in Germany accepted my offer for a M,M- copy. Total cost with freight NZ$63 which isn't bad when I've seen less than perfect copies fetching US$200 or more on E Bay. So far my Discogs buying has been perfect, fingers crossed that continues.

Yes made the mistake of getting the book above many years ago and it started me down a trail or two of Alt country collecting. Fortunately most of the albums that interested me were only on cd so it wasn't too expensive. Led me to bands such as Freakwater, E.I.E.I.O, Cordellia's Dad etc plus the likes of Jimmie Dale Gilmore, Terry Allen, Kimmie Rhodes, Iris Dement amongst a host of others. Many dont get a lot of air time these days but there are still quite a few favoured recordings . Was listening to Freakwater yesterday and Shaver on the way to work this morning.

FFS,
This is all just another method of keeping me broke and explains how I end up with 5 different copies of the same album. I too have the 4MWB reissue of Gilded, so will be interested to hear if the new one is markedly better. Gene Clark with the Gosdin Brothers, and Wolf King of LA are a couple of my favourites of the genre..

Thanks to Michael W drawing my attention to the fact I do not have a stereo copy of Belafonte Live at Carnegie Hall (see my WILT post), I have taken the plunge and bought a brand new item, a 2014 pressing, from Deep Discount on TradeMe. While I was there, I ordered a recent issue on 180gm vinyl of Jennifer Warnes - Famous Blue Raincoat. I once owned a very nice copy of this, but was one of the items I regretfully sold when about to retire at end of 2010 - I had foolishly decided to stop collecting and playing vinyl because of the space my addiction was taking up! I advertised a lot of my LPs on Audioenz at the time, and I am almost certain it was Beeman who bought it, having travelled all the way from West Auckland to where I was then living between Kawakawa Bay and Orere Point!

$75 ! albeit a different version again. please let us know how it sounds. my classic from 1996 is good but a mint original is better again. is there another re-release of fbr ? my last one was the infamous cisco box. Yes, a lot of money, but another US based seller on Fishpond was selling the same item for $105! And that was plus postage, at least the deep discount price includes delivery costs. Hope not hit too much at the border! I believe a mint original will be dearer again. will let you know how it sounds, for sure. looks like the FBR one is a fresh pressing, again will let you know. Was also keen on Jennifer Warnes album The Well, but that was listed for $85!

Did you have problems with your copy of the Cisco Box Michael. I think I remember you getting a copy back in the AE days . The only issue I have with my set physically is a slight swooshing noise on the led into First we Take Manhattan .

I've got a s/h copy somewhere, NZ or Oz IIRC - haven't seen it for a while. I must try again to enjoy this

this is another of those albums i have multiple versions of. it remains warnes' best solo work. the others were fluff by comparison.

I've a NZ pressing I bought new, played it again recently and sounded as I remembered. Thrashed as a demo disc at the time, it's not something I need another version of. (Love over gold I still can't listen to....)

Ah yes the living sound Belafonte, not sure where mine was pressed, got it when I was into grabbing all the living sound records I could find. "Bang Baaroom and Harp is another of those finds. Not something I play often...

Well, thought I had bought it, but today received email from TM that my payment has been refunded. No message from the seller, so assume they are out of stock!

Gene Clark with the Gosdin Brothers, and Wolf King of LA are a couple of my favourites of the genre.. While I haven't done a head to head with the 4MWB pressing there's probably no need to as the new reissue sounds very good/better. Nice heavy duty sleeve, quiet vinyl, great sound, what's not to like....well my copy is dished on side 2, probably around 7 or 8 mm so needs the TT Weights outer clamp to play. Problem now is do I approach Amazon.com to return or grin and bear it. I know that the very few returns I've had with the UK branch they've just told me to keep the defective copy but I see UK based member on the Hoffman forums also got a warped copy from the USA and they wanted it returned. That ends up being a hassle , waiting on postage refunds that are never enough to cover costs our end. There are days when I think I'm done with vinyl but then the 3xlp Nick Cave Beautiful Creatures is close to perfect, lottery time again.

Checked my Belafonte at the weekend. It's a US pressing, disc one is warped, disc 2 plays fine. Still not my favourite Belafonte LP. I prefer "Songs of the Caribbean" on mono RCA.

My 11 May order for FBR arrived today from USA. Well packed in double layer of corrugated cardboard, the album inside a thick plastic envelope. Cover and inner perfect, well printed, good quality. LP a 2015 reissue on 180gm vinyl by Impex, no discernible faults, flat and clean. Playing side 1 now, lovely silent surface, sound quality tops! Been a long time since I heard this record, but Jennifer's voice seems a little darker than I remember it on the NZ pressing I used to own, but that was on a very different system. host photos free

Not a new release, but this is on its way from Canada for me..... I've been away from electronic music since maybe Ryuichi Sakamoto, Vollenweider. That's if you don't count dabbling in a bit of hip hop & dance Canada Post is surprisingly $$, so it's coming 'surface' & it'll be a while Blame Jana.

Was lucky to have a family member coming back from the USA today. Much more impressed these days with Amazon's vinyl record packaging, esp if you get the anonymous big box extra container.

Interested on your thoughts on the two De Ment lps Owen. Big fan of that pair. I'm guessing originally a digital recording? but I dont get too anal about that.
