Going there tommorow !! Off to Welly and a visit to civilisation. Yes it does cost me a dinner out for my son and his GF, I wonder when that starts to turn around and he shouts me and his mum out ?

Nah, count yourself lucky if they even visit you in the rest home.

Is that a real Wellington store or an internet image of a generic large record store? I did take a few photos inside the old Real Groovy store in Auckland from before they moved, but on eventually finding them I see they were just of a part of it, the classical section. Hardly worth uploading. I do have one pic of some bins of 78's @ 50c each! As an aside, on an earlier look this afternoon (no time to reply) I saw a comment relating to the earlier rare RCA orange label cartoon, joking about how about a close up of the label, grooves, etc. Well I thought it was amusing, but I see now since deleted. I've deleted whole comments myself, thinking afterward or next day too drunk or irrelevant or too off topic. But in reply to the phantom comment, I seem to have very few RCA at all, but I knew I had somewhere a 1973 David Bowie Pin Ups, orange label. RCA NZ. It took me about 1/2 an hour to find it! (no need to joke about is the orange deep enough!-) www.discogs.com/Bowie-Pinups/release/5298594www.discogs.com/Bowie-Pinups/release/5298594#images/10847989I've accumulated my records from various sources, quite a lot bought new, a few starting in the late 60's, then a hiatus and again in the 80's and since, but also from hand me down collections from friends and family (hence some World Record Club that I grew up with) and op shops, second hand record stores... but I've no idea where I got the above from. It's possibly the most scratched and filthy, even including mould and odd spots, LP I've ever pulled out of the 'oddball dubious that may need cleaning' section;- I have some wonderful classical titles that look almost unplayed in there too, which just have a few spots of mould, mold. I have a high resolution A3 scanner that will accommodate a bare LP, although it misses a few mm of an LP cover in one dimension. The idea of scanning it is tempting, but I'd have to unplug everything from one new linux test bed PC to another old XP one that has the drivers... Maybe later. It could almost be a new humour category! World's filthiest records! ;=}) Before and after cleaning? I do still look forward to building an ultrasonic RCM, still have thoughts from earlier on building a simple vacuum one.

No that was a generic record store off the Internet sorry. Yes I would like an Ultrasonic RCM machine. I'm sure I can actually find an unbelievably soiled / worn LP somewhere. Apart from about one crate of my own (v. weak) attempts to collect vinyl the rest of mine come from 2 donations. One was the groundsman at work - that was kind of Ian Drury type obscure pre / post punk maybe then the other donation from a jazz musician and that really does have early mono right through Blue Note up to early 80's jazz a lot of it. He did say he kept the best ones. But it's languishing due to me having so little spare time. Edit: Darn. I just looked up one record on Discogs and it's not as valuable as I thought. 😊 😅 I'll have to join Discogs I think.

OK ta about the record store image! Yes well maybe we'll get there with the cleaning records thing. Yeah it might be fun to start a thread on filthy (not necessarily in content) worn and scratched, maybe subsequently cleaned, images of records.
I just looked up one (another hand-me-down) LP record on Discogs, and am surprised and pleased to find that it might be worth something.
I should join, too.

I could remove some of the coarse plastic outer covers and take more spine pics. But that's all for today. I'll tease everyone later.. We have to realise that we have strayed a little off topic from the humour thread, and I've noticed previously that some moderators are quite tight about that sort of thing. Personally, back in the days of newsgroups, NNTP protocol was it? using Free Agent, I always enjoyed sub-threads going off topic and wending their way out. Actually, since Google took them over years ago, you can still find archives of them or even present contributions in google groups. People still write there: groups.google.com/g/rec.audio.high-endMy point is that I think the moderators should allow these brief divergences off topic;- they will run their course, and perhaps lead to newly created threads, but in the meantime are part of the history of this thread, Hi-Fi Humour, how many pages now? - and will still be valid even if only as pointers to new threads. As for photos of spines, that's exactly what I've been thinking about, except either turn the camera sideways (always better with a tripod?) or rotate the image in software afterwards. Useful for a list of records. Take the outer covers off and stack them all square. Maybe there will be a new thread of "Parts of my collection" or some such.
(I'm just making this up as I go along! ;=})) Meanwhile, getting back to humour, did I post this before? I think not, but as well, here's a close up of a label of one of those 50c 78's ... so descriptive. I wonder what it sounded like?
Cheers!

Thanks rdm. That's helpful. Sorry about the slight divergence from the topic. ( Owen Y these posts could be moved somewhere more appropriate.)

No worries mate! I hope the moderators take the hint that a few divergences off topic might be OK!

For a while I've been bothered by some smudge marks on the screen of the cheap Veon TV I use with my Cambridge disc player. Mystery solved ! Derp !
