Don't think this has been mentioned but Dunedin is soon to have a proper walk in HiFi shop which it has been missing for a few years .(well, there is Good HiFi but I've yet to find them open in all the years I've been going to Dn) The new shop looks like it will be named Relics and is tied to the existing Relics music shop. Talking to the owner on Friday and he was hoping to have things open in a couple of weeks. Focus will be on Dunedin produced hardware including Wand , Perreaux and a locally made speaker that I can't remember the name of. I think the shop will be in the old Music Planet site in St. Andrews st with one retailer between it and the record shop.
Relics music store has been hanging in there pretty well and seen of the competition so hopefully the HiFi shop will prosper as well. Big plus having a store front for locally made product.

Bricks and Mortar stores are hard to find these days, so I wish them all the best.

Interesting... it would be fascinating to see if they stocked Plinius and Theophany, or maybe even Image loud speakers.
Of course, making that a viable retail store would be tricky, especially with the high entry point for the kit (relatively speaking).

I think they will be stocking some less expensive mainstream gear as well and it looked like headphones will also be in the mix. If it's done right there's a fairly big catchment that extends well outside of Dunedin. It's part of life in Ingill to travel to Dn for the day and a bit of shopping and if you can attract clients from central and up into Oamaru there's a reasonable population to tap into with a bit of spending power.

Image is essentially defunct since Chris retired some time back, and Plinius... Well what can I say.

Image still advertise a comprehensive range of speakers for sale on TM. I understood Chris sold Image a couple of years back? I see Chris is enjoying retirement by selling Musical Fidelity products on line. Image still have an active website, advertising a factory listening room for customers to trial their range of spkrs. They also advertise themselves as nz agents for Lowther loudspeakers, and ANK kitsets, based on audio note designs. The kits look interesting.

sub - I built a AudioNote Uk 'Kit One' 300BSE kit years ago. (In fact, rmc001 owns one ) Also built one of their Line Preamp kits back then Easy to build, but costly shipping for the heavier amps.

I seem to remember that Chris sold the brand name to an Asian guy from Auckland. Nothing wrong with Asian products at all, but I doubt it should be considered the Image of old.

And looking at the Trademe listing's the Seas Prestige whizzer cone drivers are about twice the price that you can buy them from the Aussie supplier.

Factor in shipping of course - which these days is a bit like a piece of string. Bottom line margin (~40%) is probably not dissimilar to other local importers, retailers, less even

Anyone familiar with Gary Anderson Sound & Vision in Cromwell, Otago? Seems to offer a few established brands, in addition to general home appliance & consumer electronic wares.

Been there a couple of times in the last decade but not for a while. From memory they were quite heavily into Bose. Last time there the stock levels seemed to have fallen and very little of interest . Lot of gear on the web site but doubt there's much on the floor. However I'm quite happy to be wrong(again). They have been around awhile so must be doing something right.

Gary Anderson's actually got a LOT of stock crammed in the shop. In summer it's worth stopping past some of the fresh fruit icecream stalls near Cromwell / grabbing some stone fruit!

I must of caught the shop at the wrong time, was quite a while ago. We do the stone fruit run late january, via Gore, Roxbugh,Alexandra, Cromwell ,Frankton and home. On a good day with the top down it's nice trip. Great cafe in Roxburgh for morning tea. If the traffics light the road between there and Alex is a lot of fun.

Looking at a vid on-line of the new Relics store, it looks to be a smattering of Perreuax, some of the NZ made TexTone speakers, B&W speakers + cans and what looked like a Cambridge bluetooth type speaker.
It will be interesting to see how they go.
