Mine were CLS2. CLS2z rings a bell but I might be mistaken... My D70 drove them OK but I always thought they lacked something. A Krell KSA 100 worked well enough and was an improvement I thought, but they really came alive with the Accuphase monos, which unfortunately werent mine and were well outside what I could afford.
Very high WAF, and sounded absolutely realistic from the next room.

Most if not all original CLS would have had their panels replaced either with new 1 panels or 2 panels.
Some even got 2 electronics.
2z was the last iteration with different panels and electronics again.
I think there was a 2z Final Edition as well.
the 2z seems to be the best version, re-capturing the sonic magic of the 1 with relative user friendliness of the 2s.

I've only heard the CLS once. But it was magical!

Looking good, chaps! Owen, is the tuner a Fisher or a Scott? Have always fancied the wooden enclosures on your DiY amps. Only a slight shame (for us) that you couldn’t get those beautiful horns of yours into the frame! MichaelW, lovely set up. 😍 The Pure Audio phono & integrated amp and the Image speakers... local flavours represent!!! I always enjoy these threads, often inspiring, but they can also be quite intimidating. It doesn’t help that both of our stereo set-ups are going through massive err... transitions, so aren’t very photogenic! Here’s an old “BEFORE“ pic of the vinyl & CD replay rig. Vinyl player is / was: Afromosia Linn LP12 / black Ittok LVII / refurbed Troika, plus umm... Cetech subchassis / Mose Hercules external psu / Boston Audio Carbon Mat / Nordost Frey tonearm cable 🙄 Rest of the kit: Luxman SQ38u integrated amp (EL34 based, with MC phono built in) McIntosh MR71 tuner (currently on the market!) Audio Analogue Maestro 192-24 Rev 2.0 CD player Rogers Studio 2a (a passive version of the BBC LS5/8 with the desirable Audax HD13D34H tweeter) on “correct” Graham Audio LS5/8 stands Speaker cables are Auditorium A23 and interconnects are Chord Company Whew! That’ll do for now...

Still running the Cambridge Michael. With Oppo gone there's really nothing in a multi format player at a reasonable price. I'm still on the fence if it's as good a Redbook player as my Rega Saturn. Are you using your 752 analogue or digital out? I'm locked into pcm with my amps but I doubt if I'd notice any difference if I could go with dsd audio.

Thanks raveydaveOwen, is the tuner a Fisher or a Scott? Scott LT-110 - well spotted, another from the same 'stable'. That’ll do for now... A beautiful image of the Rogers Studio 2A LS5/8. As a Spendor SP1 owner (still in use upstairs), I've always fancied the 12" cone versions of those BBC monitors & regretted a few times not stretching that little bit for a pair of Spendor SP100. I enthusiastically concur with the use of these Birch-ply speakers on light, rigid steel stands.

the only current alternatives are the new pioneer 500/800 4k uhd players but they don't have the same digital file playback capability of the ca/oppo.
there was a universal arcam but i don't know if it's current or not.

There's a lot to be said for low height stands/tables/racks. Potentially better rigidity, less footfall issues. And cardboard box corner bass traps

Looks like a nice room. I don't get envious of others gear but I do get the odd prod from the green eyed monster when I see everything laid out in a nice space that invites you in for a listen. I take it there's more music stored elsewhere.

I take it there's more music stored elsewhere. Most behind the left speaker Some in the front room Some in a spare room and others scattered around the house. Would love to have it all in one place though

No dedicated music room here, sharing space in the main living area. the chair between the speakers is my listening chair, moved to the prime spot for serious listening. system is a mix of old and new. Linn LP12 with Valhalla power supply, Ittok LV11 arm, circa 1984, with Denon DL103R cart. Plinius 8150 integrated amplifier, refurbished. KEF Reference 104/2 speakers, circa 1990, refurbished. Oppo BD103 Bluray/DVD player. Innuos ZENmini Mk3 server/streamer, 3 months old.

Technics SP-10MKII TT TransFi Terminator linear tracking/air bearing tonearm London Decca Super Gold cartridge Lounge LCR Gold MM phono stage DIY tube Linestage DIY tube amps 3-way horn speakers There's something missing there Owen. Nice comfy chair to the left and lots of space shelf space under the TT. I could see a nice home brewed headphone amp(in a wood case of course) matched with something like an Audeze LCD-3. Perfect for some late night listening.

Hmmmm cooksferry - planar magnetic phones do interest me but, given the small amount of time I devote to headphone listening, I'd have trouble justifying anything more than LCD-1s. And, given their low impedance, a SS (or hybrid tube/SS?) headph amp it would have to be. Keep 'em coming chaps, don't be bashful, let's see those listening setups, modest systems or even just a comfy headphones chair in the corner.

Citroen's loudspeaker stat panels above, look like they have adjustable tilt.

Post by michaelw on Jul 29, 2020 23:07:17 GMT 12
Do they ? The old CLS had an adjustable foot on the bottom of the electronics box to adjust tilt. But there was so little adjustment it was often a matter of one or two twists between just right and the foot falling out. Nice Luxman robertr

Can’t really take a pic of my main system at the mo as it has some prototype gear in it. But I did manage to take a quick one of my bench, it’s finally clear after months!
