It’s true, I did. I also didn’t anticipate being out of work indefinitely as of the day after. I don’t generally approve of people profiteering on TM like this but sometimes even I push my moralistic virtues aside and embrace capitalism. I’m certainly not the first nor will I be the last. That said, I’m a little embarrassed to have been outed like this. Ah well. I suggest you don’t buy it Cliff.

Go for it Johnny. Good luck with the sale. Sorry to learn that like many others you have lost your job due to this dreadful virus. Cheers.

" Let who is without sin cast the first stone ". To be fair Mr Heathen bought this with the full intention of keeping it for himself and selling his Clearaudio, however due to both he and his wife being made unemployed due to the plague, its been a rapid case of asset stripping in the Heathen household in order to pay rent and keep the family fed. Loath as he is to let this go, it is I who have advised him that this is probably his easiest/quickest/most return sale for the short term. Unfortunately he will probably never be able to afford to replace it. There are many less fortunate than ourselves Citroen.

Must remind myself not to be so judgemental in future...
I was shocked that he got it for such a cracking price, and wish I had managed to score it.
Very jealous.
Even though the 3012? looked a bit knackered, what condition is it in Johnny?

Sorry Cliff, didnt mean to climb into you there. I know Heathen was absolutely gutted about this: went from elation to disaster inside 24 hours really. His forever deck only to last until it was sold due to necessity. Hope he gets a decent price for it.

Thanks for the support chaps. Tbh, if having to give this up is my biggest problem - I could be doing far worse and I’m well aware that others are going through much harder times than we are. For the record, I do feel a measure of guilt at trying to profit from it while I’m at it. Ah well. Re: arm, I can honestly say I don’t rightly know how good or bad she is as I pushed all this stuff aside as soon as it became apparent that I wasn’t going to be keeping it. Evidence of that can be seen in the TM ad where every piece has been meticulously cleaned... except the platter which still has oil and fly shit and god knows what else all over it. 😂 There is at the very least some pitting which may or may not buff out, a missing bias weight and some damage to the lifter mechanism casing - though the lifter functions fine.

Not a crime to be marking up a purchase price last time I checked. If a prospective new buyer recognises it from Tm they can simply decide to buy or not buy...easy really. Just put on the ad it used to belonged to Elvis....or maybe say that Buzz had it with him when he went to the moon!!

Why has Johnny been deleted ? Check your profile, I think you can change your display name in there.
So I bet he did it to himself.

A couple of years ago a rimless Garrard 301 installed in a radiogram sold on TradeMe for $500. The buyer then brought over to me for refurbishing, but when it was finished he found he needed funds more than the turntable so I bought it from him for $1500. It's now in Australia. A shame that the virus came along just as you had found such a bargain. Good luck with the sale, $2000 is a very reasonable price. You might consider listing it on StereoNet Australia also.

At least with purchasing a 301 or 401 you can be certain that Tony has the skills and knowledge to fix and restore them. Im sure this is not the case for some if not all the classic Japs tts. The big Kenwoods,Sonys and others maybe more appealing to look at but be prepared to list body parts on Ebay Iraq if they poo themselves!!

All goes to show that visual appeal is in the eye of the beholder as its one of the things I really like about the 301 is the look of it, especially with the skeletal type plinths. but then my testes have changed over the years and luckily enough now I dont have to look at one.

Hi Colin,
I think he was trying to get rid of the thread but deleted himself instead.

By Jove! Where to start boys? I did delete my account as I didn’t want the Heathen name I ‘trade’ under to be associated in any online searches with a thread that discusses my current situation ‘publicly’... I figured deleting me might be easier than asking a moderator to delete a thread I found a bit embarrassing but the thread continues and apparently my move to remove myself creates more fodder rather than less... clear as mud? Anyhoo, I actually came back more to offer appreciation for the supportive nature of most of these posts. It’s cool that a bunch of guys I don’t know would be so, well, supportive. I’m gutted to let this thing go but it just seemed the right thing to do when the rug got pulled so suddenly. Need V want. Special shout out and thanks to Jon. What a nice post that was to read and an even better gesture. Couldn’t go to a better home either as I’ve admired your work from afar for a good number of years now and I’m sure you’ll do more justice to the table than I ever could... Cheers all. JH

Hi JH, my 301 is spare at the moment having set up the 401 with Graham’s lovely bamboo plinth and Simon’s brilliant Wand Master arm. When I come back down under at the end of the year perhaps I should bring it with me for you?

Thanks Colin! That’s an awesome offer and one I’ll certainly keep in mind - but probably silly to commit right now much as I’d love to. 😂 Awww, you geeks really are the best, aren’t you? All a bit embarrassing but also quite a nice show of community. And as for you Cartridge Guy, I’ve got 4 copies of the same Susan Prentice wreckid sitting here with your name on them!? That’s probably a copy for every TT in the house? 😜
