Michael Fremer exclusive report: "... the K3— a brand new, more than 3 years in the planning and manufacturing direct drive turntable that aims to define "state of the turntable art". " "... the New Zealand-based chief designer who is a highly accomplished hydraulics engineer. "

Note the mention of "the New Zealand-based chief designer" above. You may not recall our Audio Reference Co. post 3 years ago, showing a 'prototype high-end' turntable.

Ok, the article does say the design has not been finalised, so plenty of room for improvement. Yes, do hope it sounds a lot bettervthan it looks

I heard that prototype at Audio Ref Co. back in 2017, but an unfamiliar tonearm, cartridge, phonostage, amps, spkrs, room.... so I didn't take away much in the way of useful impressions I'm afraid. (BTW. I've also been in that OMA room in Brooklyn - but that's another story )

" What you see in the photo (above) is not the final finish nor is it the 100% completed physical design. " Some workshop pics of the upcoming OMA K3 turntable, being machined - presumably in USA, Pennsylvania probably, where OMA do their backroom work. Pics of the finished TT are not available for public release yet, but from what I've seen, the design-sensitive here should be a bit less offended

Ive got a 100mm double layered slate plinthed OMA deck with a 401. Workmsnship is very nice. Damn expensive! They dont sell the plinths alone anymore...you have to buy a complete tt from them.

Please share your experience of Mr Weis's showroom with us Owen. Hes a very interesting chap to talk to on the phone...He told me my Artemis arm would fail...they all do!!!...what the heck. I know for a fact he suggested to Jason P that the Artemis was the perfect match for the 401 in his 100mm plinth because Jason told me himself. I see hecstill has an Artemis arm in his new "thing"

Style is not quite my cuppa either, but I'm probably not the target customer. And potential buyers I expect would not be wanting a conventional looking TT.

The balance is all wrong in that design.
If the chassis was the same size as the platter, and whatever it is that is under that chassis was more substantial or at least in the same profile. Otherwise it looks weedy.

Chaps - no one's seen the finished product yet. (I have seen an in-factory assembly, but have been sworn to secrecy.)
