The MA300 gold. Sounds as good as it looks. Generous bottom heft, passes the Owen Pallet test. (Ask foveaux). Beautiful crisp and clear top without harshness and a full and rich middle. Hope the neighbours like them!

Greetings mgb & welcome! Elegant & striking looking lspkrs - new acquisition? (I have taken the liberty of reloading your pic to imgur - we advise using imgur instead of imgbb as images appear fullsize. See jon's post here - darklantern.proboards.com/thread/339/adding-images )

Ahh...there you are mgb, 'bout time, and welcome! There's been quite a journey for you to land these MAs in your system. Don't know about Owen Pallett : but...there's something for everyone on that vinyl. Of course, the foveaux test is upcoming: you know the test tracks I'll be bringing. Can't wait to see (and hear) yr new MAs. How long for 'break-in?'

Aye they are the Waitati ones. More like a piano than speakers! JR has been wearing them in and they are currently hooked up to the tv getting more use before moving to their intended resting place in the new room. They’ll be hooked up to Nuprimes, simplex tt, dynavector bits and generally fed a diet of raucous and uncouth noise. Well except Eno of course. will post some more photos in a week once they are embedded. They really do sound wonderful. Loads of lovely bottom end but detailed and refined elsewhere. I imagine Mr Ransley will have a review soon.
apologies for the odd photos earlier but the upload system beats my meagre IT skills.
Now back to my XTC Skylarking box. MGB

JR did try a half hearted sales pitch but knew they were way out of my budget. Looking forward to Foveaux's totally unbiased feedback once he's heard them. Might be hard for an electrostatic fanboy to give a thumbs up

Hi mgb, I'd love to hear more thoughts on these a year later. They are the exact speakers I've almost convinced myself I need to replace my 12yo Image 414/2s. Are there any How have they grown on you? Are you still in love with them? What are you driving them with? Any issues at all? Is the finish holding up etc? So many questions... Thanks! Andy The MA300 gold. Sounds as good as it looks. Generous bottom heft, passes the Owen Pallet test. (Ask foveaux). Beautiful crisp and clear top without harshness and a full and rich middle. Andy Welcome aboard andychampionnsound You'll enjoy the forum and looking forward to your input. Please give us an intro. to your system too. Likewise - will be interested in mgb's update. I'm overdue to get to his new listening room to hear 'em (hopefully soon after levels drop).

Anybody able to rattle mgb's cage? I'm really interested to get some outside perspective on these speakers.

Andy
I would definitely recommend them
you will need some grunt to maximise them though. They have lovely bottom end, capable of ruffling your toupee, very balanced and strong middle range and tidy detail in the top. Not as detailed as the ma studios but nothing else is.
my system from the top shelf down is: well tempered simplex with dynavector xx2 avid pulsare phono nuprime pra preamp nuprime st10 dac nuprime mxc1 monoblocks cambridge cxc CD transport Klei cables and interconnects
the pra amp is a real sweety, really natural sounding. the mxc1s give enough grunt to launch a space shuttle, one day I’ll get brave and wind them up, the MAs are unflappable and will take it. The neighbours might not though.
its taken a bit of evolution and a degree of financial recklessness but the system is very nicely balanced, natural and capable of emulating earthquakes if needed.
really recommend it all.

Fantastic, thank you for that. Your monoblocks obviously have potential to lift the roof off you house! I will definitely audition the 300s with my own pre/amp setup to make sure they're happy with each other but this is very encouraging! I currently top out the gain at @ 9 o'clock with vinyl and that's plenty to fill the house with sound so I expect I've got ample headroom to appease these speakers. And your repeated mention of the bottom end heft of the 300s is exactly what I want to hear! AndyI would definitely recommend them you will need some grunt to maximise them though. ...and just checked them out quickly in the flesh. Beautiful looking units, and the ebony finish is fantastic. Not as 'zebra' looking as the web images can make them look, and not overly imposing either. can't wait to hear them, hopefully this weekend.
