Hi Owen Y, I can't seem to find the thread about adding images, notably imgur ones. I've tried adding imgur links but can't remember how to do it so they appear as full sized images.

Have been experimenting & learning about any pros & cons. Will post something about it soon.

To load an image... imgur.com/uploadUpload your image and it's best to resize to 800 X 600 pixels. Mouse over the image and click the down arrow and then Get Share links Copy the bbcode and paste into your post on the forum:

Thanks @ jon I see what I was doing wrong now. I was copying the bbcode and then using Add image to post link, rather than just pasting it into the message.

Hmm, had to post twice just now. After adding image first time, the screen went black, so could not click on post quick reply. Had to close the link, then start again.
Actually, have experienced that black screen before, maybe three times over the last three months, when trying to open Dark Lantern, just got a black screen with Dark Lantern showing in the URL box at top. Fixed by closing, waiting, and trying again.

Nothing I know of at this end happening. Does it happen typically when uploading images?

what size displays are members viewing the forum on ?
primarily a 24in monitor here.

I suggest that everyone upload images at a 'standardised' size when using imgur - say 15" or 17" monitor "Auto-resize". Looks good on my 24" (16:10) display.) (It doesn't matter if viewing on a mobile device.)

agreed on 15 or 17

15 and 17 both look fine on my 13" MBPro

I have been using 15" recently, so that images did not look too huge, compared with images uploaded by those members still using imgbb - so can I suggest that members start with 15" & see how that works out? Thanks, all.

Is this better Owen Y ? MW's post of various sizes all come out as the same size on my 13" laptop. BTW can't seem to find an auto-resize button in imgur but have resized to 800x800

auto-resize is under the add images button on your main media page. tap the down arrow to get your choice of sizing

I don't see that option as I'm not normally actually logged in when I add images using imgur.
Just logged in to imgur and now I see that screen.

I think that when you create your own album, apart from having to log in, you can choose to have your images non-public(?)

Even when not logged in there is a Post Privacy option - Public or Hidden selection.

I have been using 15" recently, so that images did not look too huge, compared with images uploaded by those members still using imgbb - so can I suggest that members start with 15" & see how that works out? Thanks, all. Hi Owen, About to create a DIY post, but don't want to use imgur. Found it unwieldy and the home page ugly. I've looked at imgbox - joined and uploaded, but the pic links seem to lead to a gallery page instead of the individual image. I've also joined freeimage.host but that seems to do similar. I thought I joined the aforementioned imgbb but it seems to be ibb.co. That looks as though it will give direct links with a choice of embed codes. seems to indicate using a direct link, so I'll try that here (it's on another menu than in this screenshot, a teaser in itself!) (Obviously I used the direct link there, and will for the pics in the DIY post to come.) My main question is, I've already downsized the uploaded photos to 1/4 original size (xy pixel count halved) but some are still large. Well, large-ish.
They range from 1664 x 936 cropped to 1536 x 1152 4:3. What happens here if a pic is larger in pixel count than a viewers screen? I though most modern browsers would resize an image on the fly. But within this board? Do scrollbars appear? (The above image is just 695 x 535.) I'd rather not have to resize and re-upload all over again, but also don't want to make my post too unwieldy for viewers with smaller screens. (I suppose I could upload an oversize image here right now and answer my own question... ;=}) )
And so here goes. But I'd also appreciate feedback and advice. This is a 1536 x 1152 picture from my CBD balcony garden a couple of years ago.
(Hmm, I only see the text link, not the image, yet the image above appeared in Preview or even instantly.) (I'll post anyway and see what happens ... )
Thanks! Ross (haven't posted in a while!)

Post by RdM on Mar 31, 2020 18:24:45 GMT 12
So now I'm confused. I thought I used the "Direct link" option for the first screenshot pic, which showed, and also for the second, which didn't ... Further exploration (or advice) needed before I go to create the hinted at DIY forum post!
Hmm.
I'll try again with another couple of bumblebee (how apposite!) photos, 1024x768 and 800x600 downsized from 3072x2304, and see if they'll show inline instead of as links.
And neither seem to work.
This is on Firefox in MXLinux. Should I try Chromium or Vivaldi? But why did the first 695px × 535px above upload pic work, and not these? Should I try an even smaller version?
Hmm, no change.
Ah! Maybe it's because the links were set to Private (anyone with the link). Which seemed logical to me at the time, but in a sense this is a public space, sort of. Actually I think the whole album was set to Private (anyone with the link).
So let's try a large-ish public photo. If that works, I can make the previous public (or at least the upcoming DIY post ones).
This is 1536x1152
Doesn't embed. How about with a full BBcode?
Nothing seems to work, except that first image, so I'm giving up...
[Edit! Ah, giving the BBCode full option makes it appear! So I'll try that out on a DIY post, and see how that goes!]

‘Electrolytic Reformer’ sounds enticing. Looks like you have the same multimeter as me! I usually just use the add images button. Yet to try imgur.

Hi RdM - looking forward to your new post! We do not follow the Proboards guide (re. image posting) because the {roboards image storage is limited & not large. As said, we recommend imgur - this works OK. Copy & paste the BBcode. Imgur automatically downsizes (set it for '15" monitor') Start your post & we'll adjust/tweak/work through it with you if necess.

Thanks Colin, I'll try to get up a post tonight, now I think I see how I need to upload the links.
I looked at imgur and disliked it intensely. For now, I'm going with
Regards!
Oh! [Edit]
It's an old but top of the range some ~$200? then, DSE Q-1559 digital multi-meter. I'm guessing 15, even more years old?
I wish I could find the original manufacturer, a service manual, how to adjust tweak inside for some zero settings, but I don't dare touch those presets! I have to allow a little offset in low resistance measurements.
Anyway, later in the DIY thread.
I'm grateful to have learned how to post images.
Thanks for all the fast responses!

Thanks Owen;- but there are two Proboards guides, one for external sites and the other for internal. I appreciate the small storage on the latter, and was always going to use the former. It was just a question of what codes to post.
Now it seems clear that the full BBCode one is the one ... not yet sure about size, but the caterpillar one above seemed OK on this 4:3 19" screen, native I'm not sure.
Cheers! ~ Ross

It is the same meter! I bought mine 15 or 20 years ago as well. It’s a very reliable meter and I keep coming back to it despite having 5 others to choose from. I’d also love to see the schematic to tweak those presets. Perhaps time to do some research. Here’s a trial pic of it using Imgur to see if it comes out ok.

Yay it works! From the iPad I used medium image size. Does it look ok on your screen?

Hi colinf - I saved your image, upsized it from 640x480 to my typical 1000x750 & am reposting it from my desktop PC @ '15" monitor' sizing, for comparison: Both look OK.
