I don't understand. Mint JBL L300 speakers & 1000 watt McIntosh amplification are not worthy of a comment - is there anyone out there................?

Why don't you tell us a bit about them?

I would have thought the whole point of those sorts of speakers is that you can use them with low powered SET type amplification. Whats the power handling of those speakers ? Surely a kw of SS power into them is asking for trouble ? Be interested to hear more about it....

Not sure what you mean buy "the point of those sorts of speakers". The JBL L300 is the home version of the JBL 4333 studio monitor. It is commonly used in the studio back in the day with McIntosh or Crown or similar high powered amps. They are a lot less efficient @ 93db than the large studio monitors like the JBL Uriei 813 @ over 100db which I owned previously. Though the 845 monos sounded great I have for a long time wanted to try a classic big Mac. With power comes control & of course care must be taken.
Likewise I am not sure what you mean by "asking for trouble" I find the volume nob is pretty much in exactly the same place on my preamp as it was before for similar volume. The thing I have found with high quality high output amps is you dont tend to play louder because so much detail is presented even at low volume. The main difference is the amp has much more headroom and is never pushed hard. On occasions when the tubes are at full noise they can sound a bit stressed. It is a beautiful relaxed presentation that can get the girls wiggling when required (had a Hula Hut party Saturday night). So far I am loving the combination & they both look gorgeous.

Quite a different room these days. Sounds reasonably good to me, beeman'Cooler' than expected with the Macs - but hey, that was listening just straight off my PC soundcard. And recorded with cellph? Do you find that the Denon TT is pretty much immune to whatever it's placed on? (It appears to be on a folding side-table on castors.)

Yes one of my collection of real, reel to reel studio master tapes. They were used to cut the vinyl. Complete with engineers notes. Owen - yes it is a flimsy old table for the Denon but works ok. Unfortunately my huge 150kg rack is just too heavy to get down my Wellington garden path

Ok this is one for the train spotters. A very rare track produced by Troy Tate. The only song he ever did with the Smiths and only available as the B/side for the 7" version of This Charming Man

The photos do not do justice to the size of that mofo amplifier. It is huge...
Those JBLs clearly relish being driven by that beast. At least they did when I heard them
