'Hardwood plinth' is specified - IMO the wood plinth looks like Cedar or Redwood or more likely, judging by the side knots, NZ Douglas Fir - all of which are Pinus species timbers, low density, ie not 'Hardwood'. I could be wrong here & call me a pedant, but accurate listing is pretty basic - not optimism, euphemism.

most wouldn't know a true hardwood even if they were hit over the head with it.

Trees are not identified by there wood hardness but by their leaves if my memory serves me. Balsa is deemed a hardwaood from memory.

right on both counts.
a hardwood is wood from a deciduous tree (one which loses leaves annually), which may or may not be physically harder or denser than a softwood (evergreen tree which has leaves all year round), which in turn may or may not be softer.

PM me for details. I sold it to him. I wont go into it publicly in case the seller is a member here, but theres a few details you should know...

Wood from Hardwood trees " is generally harder than that of softwoods, but there are significant exceptions" (Wiki) For most audio punters, I guess the issue is density - that would be more useful info to know. Cedar, Redwood, Douglas Fir are all lowish density - not 'hardwoods' on either count. OTOH neither is Bamboo defined as a Hardwood

Ah! Ol’ Jonny Boys back. Love a good scandal, I do! I too know this table. Spent time at my place too and as I recall, I discovered one of its major faults which may or may not have been repaired to the highest possible standard but we won’t know as he’s not saying. Nor is he mentioning the 10 inch platter which is sure to put some punters off... if they knew... as for that plinth, he should really stop it with those butt joints already!?
Boo-hoo shady sellers says this Heathen!

Excuse me !! I disclosed that the arm was stuffed, no one asked me anything else ! I got the same price I paid for it and threw in a cart and new stylus as well as free shipping. I wont even mention some of your more euphemistic TM listings... Get back under your rock with your Wings albums !!

Euphemism? Yes - but hidden faults, never. Embellishment by the truck load? Why of course! But never ever a pig ugly butt joint...
As for Wings, I hear tell Wild Life made Mojos Top 10 Underloved Albums Of All Time. 😜😂 ...Your Monkees discography was conspicuously absent.... ✌️

Shouldn't you be out in the garage fixing that decrepid piece of merde ?
|
Post by Citroen on Apr 9, 2018 19:01:32 GMT 12
My merde is indeed a POS! How on earth did you know that? But I have to pay peeps to fix my sh!te as I don't have a garage or the ability to do it myself. So no, I shouldn't be out in the garage. She's actually scheduled for a repaint, derust at great cost very soon. Anyhow, between freinds, what's the downlow on the TT? wink wink

Shouldn't you be out in the garage fixing that decrepid piece of merde ? Ummmmm... which one? And anyway, no. Garage is currently inaccessible for all the half completed projects you’d have to climb over in order to find the workbench... (seriously😂) And thanks for the welcome back peeps. Good to be back. And bitchin’. 😉😏 TBH Cliff, I don’t have much to tell suffice to say the thing was fucked last time I saw it. The listing makes no mention of repairs. Also no mention of the fact the table has a 10inch platter. There’s probably different schools of thought on that but I’d think it pertinent and I wouldn’t want it on that fact alone. Picture almost makes it seem he is deliberately hiding it. I could be wrong. And then there’s that ‘custom plinth’... never thought I’d say it but it looked a darn sight better in its original mount. I’ll see if I can dig up a photo of that plinth after I’d refinished it...

There’s a 301 on TM now which I note with interest is NOT being favourably compared to a Pioneer PL-6a... 😉😂🤘🏾✌️

The 301 was THE original Garrard DJ turntable, used by the BBC and commercial stations throughout Europe. So yeah, its a DJ turntable.

I did work at a couple of radio stations 1970-73 but never took any notice of the tech stuff, too busy trying to radio the music library

caveat emptor ? iirc a dl member bought a lenco (?) from the lister that didn't perform as well as it looked. That was me, it was unusable when I got it home. He takes great photos and provides a great write up but my particular purchase was far from how it was advertised. The L75 in question now resides with a mate of mine, the "custom plinth" fell apart 2 months ago. It wasn't glued together particularly well. The seller in question has a wicked stash of TT's, his pride of the fleet is a rather nice looking 401.
Valve & Idler nut!

Will be interesting to see how the buyer gets on with that one, but the useless piece of information is that the seller ended up with a $5.00 profit after going to the hassle of making a new plinth and lid and listing on TM. (minus the cost of the plinth and lid and the TM fees of course...) I'm suspecting that the auction was derailed by the questions and he didnt get the price he was looking for...
