Nice one.
That Tinariwen is one I don't have.
Ali Farka Toure is superb on Savane. I highly recommend Ali and Toumani, another posthumous release.

Thanks, it's been a relatively lean year for vinyl purchases for various reasons... time, funds...so I'm happy. Ali Faka Toure's last release, still in good form/voice I hope. Cesaria Evora - I've tried to get on the bandwagon before, but these are (cheap) Sony re-issues. Omara Portuondo - I have this on CD, chuffed to find it on vinyl. Tinariwen - still annoyed that I missed them at Womad all those years ago. Howe Gelb - I'm late to his work, v good. Jimmie Dale G - he's a legend & I've seen him live, such a nice dude. Stardust - still looking for a definitive US pressing

Toure's in fine form on Savane, despite battling with bone cancer.
I think his collab with Toumani was his last recorded music. His guitar playing is superb.

Just few days ago I was listening to Bobbie Gentry's Ode To Billy Joe* soundtrack,
Spooky or what ?
* 1976 film named after the song - a concept developed by Max Baer Jr, Jethro from The Beverley Hillbillies

Going back to the origins with McMurtry and Smiths! 👍

ORCHESTRA BAOBAB - 2LP - I've had the CD of this classic for years. THE SMITHS - I have many copies(8), my original NZ copy + various s/h Eng copies including UK-imported. Still looking for the definitive one. I doubt that this EU re-issue will be it. JAMES McMURTRY - yes, his debut album. Was lucky enough to see him play in Birmingham AL in 2015. I like his style, his playing, his lyrics, his politics. BUTCH HANCOCK - one of the legendary Flatlanders trio, hard to find his albums here. A pal has this one, so I'm familiar. Excellent songwriter. Not sure about this Eng. copy (2LP in nice poly/paper MoFi style sleeves). BOBBIE GENTRY - I'm a fan, but this is a punt, never seen it before, a Capital release, cheap enough. Yes spooky, truthful delivery.

Does RG still use the stickiest price stickers on the planet ?

Wow! Eight copies of The Smiths. Now that's dedication.
I only have one LP, NZ 1984 RTRAN004.

Does RG still use the stickiest price stickers on the planet ? My (rare) last couple of RG purchases, about this time last year? maybe had easy peel-off $10 stickers, one was ECM Keith Jarrett Concerts - Bregenz, the other a dual piano jazz duo with a great cover (cigar smoking gentlemen;- but on playing, too trad jazz for my liking, & not to hand) - but also, most pleasingly, each had a little sticker on the inner sleeve stating:
Ultra Sonically Cleaned Real Groovy
in their house livery thin black outline around white text on an orange background. 3cm by 2cm landscape.
And actually, in the KJ case, that was on a new plastic sleeve within what may have been the original paper one. Not bad for $10 I thought. First purchase at the new shop back then, walking down the hill from K' Road.
Haven't even played it yet! Also have it as a likely CD flac, so it will be interesting to compare them at some point in time.
Come to think of it, maybe there were no stickers on the above two - faulty memory?
They have no stickers now, but maybe they were just in an all $10 bin! Yes! So, hardly an answer at all, sorry! ;=})

Does RG still use the stickiest price stickers on the planet ? Sticky yes, but come off with no damage or residue. Wow! Eight copies of The Smiths. Now that's dedication. I only have one LP, NZ 1984 RTRAN004. I went through a period where I went buying them on TrMe, with mixed success. Later bought one from Vinyl Tap in UK. My orig. is an AUS Rough Trade.

Also spotted at RGs.... (McCartney III) (If this is your thing, my copy sounds wide bandwidth & sparkling - with a couple of small crackle glitches) (Mandolin Orange)

I had some time going through town on Sat, so decided to check out RG's free parking arrangement - it works very well, you park in the Wilson carpark off Liverpool St behind, obtain a RG 2-hour parking pass from Dingbats (RG's $10 & under record outlet) within the carpark, then take the elevator down 1 level to the RG main store. I wanted to check also the Dingbats outlet - Short on time, but I found maybe my definitive copy of Willie's classic Stardust - another US copy, but this one plays clean, smooth, detailed & vividly ($8). There's a lot of common & low popularity stuff but RG have some discernment & new arrivals, so Dingbats deserves an occasional rummage. Another quick look at the main RGs - significantly depleted after the holiday period, but... As RG have this policy of 60% trade-back within 2 weeks of purchasing a new album (70% on s/h items), I thought I'd try this 2015 re-issue of Emmylou's 'landmark' Wrecking Ball (Dutch pressing, $49.95). Initial impression is that it will not replace my English Grapevine original (LHS) - but it does have some nice liner notes by Gillian Welch & lyrics sheet.

Yep, that Vega is a goodie! Suzanne Vega - EVENING OF NEW YORK SONGS AND STORIES [LIVE] A 2019 live performance, recorded in what sounds like a small intimate place, covering most of her best known songs. Well recorded, atmospheric album. Definite recommendation if you are at all interested in her music.

Its a double LP, so only $35 per disc! Besides, I got mine during a 15% off sale, less 10% loyalty discount, plus at least 10% reward points. So all up about $47.

I don't know what it says about my habits but I have The Complete Smiths box set since release and so far played one side of the debut lp and that's it. Guess I need to try harder. www.discogs.com/The-Smiths-Complete/release/3147362I do have two copies of The World Won't Listen. One is a single lp and the other a double.

I take it that the one you got isn't the triple release from 2016 RSD? Looking on Discogs and the only single lp versions besides the triple and your 1996 Grapevine are a couple reissued in 2020 . It looks like there's a version in clear vinyl and another on black but both pressed in the Netherlands. Looks like both are cut by Chris Bellman who is usually a reliable name. Digging a bit deeper and it looks like the mastering and cutting for the triple and the 2020 versions are all the same

Hi cooks - you are correct, it is not the 3xLP Deluxe Edition spread over 3 LP sides + 3 sides of 'outtakes'. Also, although my purchase was labelled 'Clear Edition' the vinyl was black - I haven't gotten to the bottom of this one yet.
