www.cnet.com/news/the-case-against-subwoofers-for-music/#ftag=rss.audiophiliac.ftagAddiction to excessive bass? The problem created when generating bass within a room (a box) is that it will excite room resonances (standing waves) & lumpy/boomy bass response will result unless the bass cabinet (or sub) is optimally placed for most uniform LF response - in the room corner/s (where all wall/floor modes are excited equally).

Got my REL Strata 3 in the corner beside my right spkr. It's usually turned down unless I pull the mains out into the room. Then I wind it up a bit.But not so I notice it on normal music.

That's one nice thing about separate Subs - you can locate the bass cabinet ideally, whilst the mid-HF spkrs are placed elsewhere for best stereo reproduction.

that's what i thought when i first got my image petite performas and mass bass units.
after some playing around, the pp ended up on top of the mass as intended.

Best thing I ever did was incorporating 2 subwoofers into my 2 channel system the sound stage and imaging is better than ever before I cannot imagine ever not having them now
