On many levels this seems like the answer to quite a few prayers. For those too far away to visit RG, it looks good in the flesh too, so to speak.
I must say, though, I have the odd reservation around this sentence: With the special solution, the records can drain dry. Does this mean I have to use their "special solution" for efficient air-drying or can I use the one I currently favour?
Also, on a day with this much humidity, is it actually possible for the records to drain dry?
Hmmmm??? D

Hi Dom - I've no idea what fluid mix this m/c uses, but traditionally RCMs use a 20% iso alcohol/water mix + a few drops of a Wetting agent. In our m/c we follow others' advice & recommend not using alcohol (because it is said that alcohol tends to remove plasticisers from the vinyl & I read that the US Library of Congress do not use alcohol in their cleaning/preservation for this reason). We use a 1:1000 to 1:500 dilution of detergent/surfactant/wetting agent in water for ultrasonic cleaning. It is this 'wetting agent' action (breaking of Surface Tension or 'detergent' action) that enables the water to form a thin film over the record & we have found that air-drying is rapid because of this (esp in sumer temps), as 'droplets' do not form.

Just ordered one of these and RG say it is on it's way so with luck I should be able to report back in a few days.

Owen it came to $768 as there was a discount of $80 for some reason, which I didn't look into to deeply for obvious reasons.

Well it arrived yesterday afternoon just before I had to go to work. Had a good look today, quite big, seems well built and if I can post the piccie you can see that it comes with a complete range of accessories!

Looks like a very nice kit, but the cat doesn't seem too impressed.

After using the RG cleaning fluid in my RCM and not being very impressed with the results, yesterday I finally tryed Triton X. It turns out that the RG fluid leaves a film or deposit on the surface of the lp making for less then silent playback, the Triton X on the other hand works as described elsewhere leaving nice clean quiet surfaces. The machine itself runs without a problem, it has a heater but the lowest temperature is 50C so not much use if you want to play your records afterwards... Anybody thinking about this buying this machine should order some Triton X and just chuck the RG fluid. Have to start from scratch again now and reclean the lps that I've already done

Any further comments about the RG unit after a few months use? Does it come with a cover for the tank when not in use?

Apart from the size and the noise while running I can't find fault with this machine.
Lid is included and there is a bracket on the back of the main body to hold it when the machine is in use.

sorry to trouble you again Mike A but can you give me the dimensions of the unit and a rough idea of hour much working space is needed around the unit ?

no problem, the actual size is 54.1 x 33.7 x 27.7 cms but you will need at least 55 x 35 x 50 cms space for it. I have mine set up on a 60x60 table in another room out of the way.

It only does 1 at a time.
I like the Real Groovy one which does up to 10 at once.
I checked Alibaba and they sell these for half the price but you have to buy in bulk!

1 at a time is good ! Tranduscers are on the side, each side of the record gets an equal blast

Life's too short to clean records 1 at a time!

Taken to the next level you should play multiple records on your various turntables simultaneously,

I see this Ultrasonic thread & the DIY one. & some on VE ( including one from a MR SUB of Northland now with a LP12 ) .
On reading these it appears my newly ( 6months ago ) RG machine runs better without their solution.
Awaiting Triton to try . .
In the meantime
I have small dust particles after USC I can scrape out of the bottom of the groves ( with a very vintage velvet brush ). Giving the record a mild case of the pops & clicks.
Many commentators mention a Vacuum cleaner system after the USC -VPI etc. & that Static is on the record in the solution hence the cavitation does not get the dust out ?
Is anyone having noiseless ( pops & clicks ) USC success w/o the vacuum ?
If its on a computer Database its not Hoarding. !

While I'm intending still to build from parts, not buy whole, an ultrasonic record cleaning tank set-up, and still wonder how good it will be, including why if a test for cavitation areas can be made with a sheet of ali foil, popping holes in it, that damage is not done to the finest HF wiggles in the groove; - but the dust seems interesting, and most relevant to me just the other day - for the first time in ages I experienced severe static from two really clean sounding classical LPs that had been in old polyprop & paper sleeves in a box set. Made me think of getting a Zerostat or somesuch after all.
And I'd had earlier thoughts of building a cheap DIY vacuum cleaning device too, so maybe one day all three will come into play. Thanks for the note.
