I'll ask the obvious question, what on earth is an Atmos capable home theatre ??

I have an 11 channel pre-amp that's capable of both Dolby ATMOS and DTS:X. I've heard a lot of different brands in 5.1.4 and 7.1.4 configurations and I still believe a well calibrated object based setup is the biggest step-up you can make in home theatre. I'm considering picking up the re-release of REM's Automatic for the People in ATMOS... just to see how good it can sound with music.

To clarify, I have a CXA5100 but not ATMOS speakers at this point.
I have been lucky to have enjoyed about 10 different ATMOS theatres at this point.
I would summarise my learnings with ATMOS / DTS:X to be... Room EQ is the key. Spend the time getting as many thorough measurements as possible - many people will perform a single point measurement and find the overhead 'bubble' to be vague, whereas the best setups I've heard have been improved by careful attention to not only placement, but also the EQ. If you get to try the likes of Dirac or ARC they really are a step above most other systems, but they are VERY involved and still have a slight BETA feel to them. So far I believe 5.1.4 is preferable to 7.1.2 setups - and low and behold I even find the ATMOS / DTS upscalers to be convincing and quite enjoyable (even when gaming).

update;
i recently sold my old rotel avr and picked up a marantz sr6012 and a pair of elac atmos speakers.
setup via the onscreen wizard was easy as. 3808 but compared to a recent sampling of a much cheaper sony avr, the marantz' audyssey system sucked as much as the last time i used audyssey - some 8 years ago in marantz 8002 and denon 3808 avrs.
sony's system got my speakers right and resulted in smooth natural sound.
the marantz sounded way overcooked with fat plodding bass and forward vocals.
a manual setup with test disc, spl meter and tape measure restored musicality !
