Had a big story all typed out and lost it all.Pain! Read an article by Jim Smith and thought I'd try these footers out.Very happy with them and agree with the reviews. herbiesaudiolab.net/csglider.htm

Old house so timber floor,Michael, which I now realize resonated quite nicely! So I don't have the odd bass note really jumping out at me now. Had speakers on the spikes supplied with them Owen.Image 412/2's.
Just listening to Abbado's Aida (LP) now and the sound is warmer and easier to listen to full bore!!Certainly affects the lower midrange, which I've often wondered about before.Especially after listening to friends old Quads and Harbeth 40.1's.
The bass is fuller now and lower piano notes sound more real instead of leaning out as the bass lowers. Also noticing more floor noise in recordings where people are moving around during the recording(of course!)
Also means I can drag the speakers out from the wall, easier to experiment as they just glide now!Means I don't have to worry about loosing my spot.

ah yes, timber floors can be tricky with bounce when you don't want it.
carpet over concrete here so the supplied image spikes work well enough.

After reading this thread I too am now the proud owner of set of Herbies gliders although mine are the threaded ones. So far better dynamics and more and cleaner bass are the obvious gains, a few more days listening and I should be able to say more, if I can drag myself away.

Good news, Mike A.... Did you retain the stone/conc slabs under the Ushers? Or dispensed with those too?

The slabs came out as I wanted to hear any changes to the sound on the floor which is quite bouncy. I might put them back in but that will have to wait until I have recovered from taking them out.

Glad it helped someone else.I'm sure my sound is better now. The threaded ones look neater, but I wasn't sure if I would like the result,so chose to keep my spikes. With the spikes there is is a bigger gap under the plinth,so one day I might get the threaded ones! My wife did notice!"Does that make a difference to the sound?" she asked.

Suspended floors here. Speakers on spikes on slabs of granite.
But these do look interesting and for not too much money.
What version do you have? Brass, stainless, titanium, and where did you get them from?

Mike A - sorry, meant to ask also, are you still using spikes on the gliders? A pic update please

Cliff, I bought mine direct from Herbies, took about a week to get here. Owen, I bought the threaded version which means no spikes, just put some Bach on and it sounds very good so further questions may or may not be answered....

I was reading an article earlier in the week somewhere and the reviewer said people think if a speaker is spiked thats all it needs. Incorrect... they need to go through the carpet and connect with the floor underneath the carpet.

I was reading an article earlier in the week somewhere and the reviewer said people think if a speaker is spiked thats all it needs. Incorrect... they need to go through the carpet and connect with the floor underneath the carpet. well i read all the posts above and did what i have done and regretted a few times before - read about something great and wonderful that i couldn't do without and bought it and... same old same old! so the gliders arrived today, i warmed everything up, and played "telegraph road" a favourite test track. was listening to it play before i put the gliders under the spikes which were forced through the carpet into the wooden floorboards. so i'm listening and thinking what a great sound i have. the living voice obx-r2's are quite something. very special. and then i start thinking - telegraph road is long enough for the mind to wander - oh no, i've done it again. this is superb! what was i thinking? how can this be better. never again will i read something and go out and buy it on the strength of fanboy's comments. so the track finishes and i put the gliders under the spikes and play it again. it starts off quiet and just strolls along for a while. i'm still thinking i've wasted $200, and then i notice something. it sounds louder, but i haven't adjusted the volume which is set at 9 o'clock on the LFD which is very loud indeed. i notice a greater clarity too - stuff is jumping out a bit more. expectation bias! but no, the track moves further along and the drums really start pumping with a greater depth to go with the brightness. i love where they really burst out but we're not there yet and i'm loving it. maybe it's real. maybe it was money well spent. no maybe's about it. definitely (defiantly as many post on other fora) an improved listening experience. thanks neilsan for the heads up on these.

Haven't tried telegraph road yet, must do!Another thing I found, seeing it's so easy to pull the speakers around now, that my 412/2's sound a bit better 500mm out from the wall instead of 200mm,mainly in the bass. Before it was too hard to try out different positions with the spikes only. I've even have bought my own small audio tape measure and hidden it from my wife!!!!The speakers have to be back near the wall normally, but when I'm alone..........

I've had these under my speakers for quite a few months now.
Just the base brass versions in regular and giant, so that I could forward tilt my speakers by using the larger ones at the back.
Bass tightened, not so boomy and everything that much clearer.
Only downside is that they are more easily shifted out of the sweet spot accidentally.

I also have Herbies brass versions under the ball feet of my Kefs. I primarily bought them to keep from doing any additional damage to my maple floor. There may have been a little improvement on the Kefs with them, but I was changing so many things at that time that it's hard to say. I also put them under the spikes on my Rythmik subs, but didn't notice much improvement. After reading a different article by Jim Smith, I plunged into the AV Room Service EVPs. I bought 3 sets for my 3 subs and they made a huge difference (I'm still running the 2 Rythmik subs on spikes on the Herbies footers on the EVPs) I also bought them for my amps and front end. Not a big, if any, difference on my front end, but I like the effect on my subs so much that I ordered platforms for my Kefs.
