While hunting through my junk box I came across a little 12 volt solenoid which inspired me to built a little Solenoid Engine or Electric 'Steam' Engine.
All of the required bits were leftovers so the financial investment was zero !!
The heavy flywheel is made from 4 heavy steel washers and a plastic wheel was carved into a cam shape to activate the micro switch to make the solenoid activate every 180 degrees .An old wirewound 100 ohm pot serves as a speed control.
It works so well I treated it to a dummy boiler from a block of wood with a ball point pen chimney.
It is hopelessly inefficient and gutless, but fascinating to watch chugging away.
The only relationship to this hi fi forum is the fact that the microswitch came from a Garrard 401 !!!!!!
Yeah, I know, I need to get out more, but my excuse was it was raining and I got bored
