I have read Howard Kaylan’s book from our local library which does have a reasonable music section. The two Bronson books I have on my Amazon wish list but didn't know about the Morris Levy book. That's a name that comes up time and again when you work through any books about 50s/60s indy labels in the USA so will have to check that one out. Sort of linked to the Levy book would be Here Comes the Night: The Dark Soul of Bert Berns and the Dirty Business of Rhythm and Blues The Last Sultan: The Life and Times of Ahmet Ertegun Sam Phillips: The Man Who Invented Rock 'n' Roll Spinning Blues Into Gold: The Chess Brothers and the Legendary Chess Records
I find that period of the American music industry extremely interesting, not so much for the music, but the some times devious and shadowy figures who moved and shook the branches.
I'm not a great reader of HiFi magazines but several years ago I picked up a pile of HiFi News magazines from Colin Walkington when he was selling his shop in Invercargill and I found Mr Kessler one of the more interesting contributors . In some respects he reminds me a little of Michael Fremer but with two eyes open when it comes to formats.
