When it comes to Project Turntables I've found that they are excellent value for money.
I started off with a Debut 3 when I got back into vinyl about 10 years ago. Along the way had a 1Xpression III, RPM5, and still own a 2Xperience acrylic which I use at work.

Since we're sort of on things Project my first from that company was a Perspective, attracted by the bling as much as anything else when I saw one Colin Walkington had sold. Nice table with a couple of flaws for me. Swapping motors to change speeds, a bloody silly idea and nipped when I purchased a speed controller . The other concern was the sprung chassis with the paddle setup into a silicon bath. I started to obsess over that and finally decided no more sprung TTs. Eventually sold it to someone in Sydney via Trade Me (always keep the original packaging) www.hifix.co.uk/project-perspective-turntable

And Rega have their latest turntables available, starting from entry-level: Rega Planar 1 - NZ$775 (with Rega RB110 tonearm & Carbon MM cartridge), black or white plinth colours. (I've seen this as cheap as NZ$599.)  Rega Planar 2 - NZ$1100 (with Rega RB220 tonearm & Carbon MM cartridge)  Rega Planar 3 - NZ$1750 (with Rega RB330 tonearm & Elys 2 MM cartridge)  IMO Rega's trump card/s are their tonearms.

Michael, yes, the price of WT TTs stops you in your tracks... I listened to the Simplex before buying it. I'd intended to keep my Linn too, but moved it on ( with no regrets)to get funds for my current set-up. The Simplex is better in the lower bass and treble, and has a blacker background (same cartridge). Ive contemplated going up the WT range: Amadeus MK2 $4k and probably my favourite: Amadeus GTA $7k - phew! As I said to a DL colleague recently: all very well to pay a premium for deployment of ' out of the square' innovation (that works), but my impression is that execution/engineering seems rudimentary and 'fails' cost/benefit analysis in the range above the Simplex.
I haven't heard the Versalex($6k) or the Royale ($16k ...!!!) - Surely a case for blind listening before flexing the plastic? I do like the new look white Simplex2 - What price this Simplex with a Symmetrex Arm (a lot smarter) - better sounding? Cheers, f

Hi Cooks, Yes, far tidier. But...it still has the tall gantry and the naff arm rest (as my Simplex I). I like the Symmetrex arrangement better: more modest gantry and cuing (just in case of elderly wobbles and failing eyesight)

i find myself less impressed with the new age well tempereds than the oldies, including teh transparent audio ones. they still sound fine but the new stuff has a more built to a price feel. totally wired's new site is an improvement
