Kind of scared to post this but have been wondering …
why do power cords matter for hifi when all power goes through a very small fuse wire??

And not only that, through all the wiring in your walls, the street, local substations, major substations, the aluminium wire in HV towers bringing it across country, & etc.
Indeed. I think there might be a case for better interconnects and speaker cables, but power?
As long as it's adequate;- beyond that I think it may be bling, one-upmanship, vanity, gullibility, & etc.

I've taken Brasso to some of my power plugs, &or abraded with a sharp tough blade, which made me feel better. Oxides won't be great conductors, apart from silver...

This can usually be addressed by tidy cable dressing keeping power cords well separated from signal leads so as not to create a problem in the first instance.

Among all my IEC cables, I only found one screened one. And of course dressing signal cables away from power cables is just basic and sensible.

Kind of scared to post this but have been wondering … why do power cords matter for hifi when all power goes through a very small fuse wire?? And then through the hundreds of turns of magnet wire in the primary of your devices power transformer, oh vey! ;=})

Fuses matter too ! Don't think of the kilometers of average wiring being the last link to your audio system, instead the power cable is the important first connection.

or...Just maybe ask what he/she was smoking when they write these very colourful and beautifully scripted pieces of word smithing...
I think some of these peeps also have their names under reviews of cable lifters too!

I am unconvinced about power cords but the argument is not generally about the power handling aspect but interference. Most after-market cords are shielded to supposedly reduce interference on the last “critical” part of the journey into your appliance where any noise pickup may be more critical (or not).

The thing is, if you remove the power cord, the appliance doesn’t even work at all! So must be important

See. No wires required. Not important at all

*stands up* Hi, my names Harvey and I'm a believer. I've replaced stock cords with Supra cable with Furutech connectors and the difference is not difficult to hear. No idea why but that is about the extent of my curiosity and budget. It's worthwhile but it would make sense to get several decent entry level ones if needed rather than throwing your budget on just one cable.

I have shares in Mercury Energy so they send me only the best of electrons which solves the problem that I didn't know I had. I use Supra power cables. The only time I have noticed a difference is when I accidentally used a computer monitor cable and it sounded dreadful. Windows not Apple if that helps.

The Amp? Or the source?

All that use 230 volts. A normal flex leaks. Supra uses screened cables.

I've recently started trying a few power cables despite me never wanting to go there previously. It's a trucky one as I've found most of them change the sound and sometimes for the better and sometimes for the worse.
Oyaide Black Mamba Sigma has Oyaide unplated plugs, is very good with digital equipment and doesnt cost much. Takes a long time to settle down though. . I've also built a couple using the Helix Image method and they can be good however it takes some skill to build them to a high and robust level.
Ive borrowed a couple of high end ac cables from Furutech and Stealth and didn't like either of them. Currently I am selling a Sablon Prince as I can't justify it's price where I was using it however I'm using another Sablon Prince on my Lampizator DAC and it s very, very good. Also using a Sablon Prince from the wall to my Inakustik AC3500 power filter.
Honestly its a real headache, and, can cost a lot unless cables can be demo'ed or borrowed. Is it worth it, well for me it is as power cables have a profound impact on my system.
