You'll probably be familiar with the Thales tangential tracking tonearms - but here's a new TT from Thales.... Aside from their tonearm, the key features, from what I can see are: - pulley-tensioned belt drive system ( jon are you there? ) - battery power supply positive-feedback.com/reviews/hardware-reviews/thales-turntable/Being Swiss, these are not inexpensive, but they also offer a simpler TT design, the TTT-SLIM II:

In case you are unfamiliar with the Thales tonearms, this is their 'Simplicity' model: Worth a look....

Man, that TT is some serious eye candy...

the multiple pulley arrangement for the belt; the pivoted tangential tonearm; possibly the battery power supply.

TT drive: A good idea I reckon, shortening & stiffening up the belt.... (I) less complex than some other TTs (ii) but why not just stiffer belt material? Tonearm: The dual arm tonearm can achieve zero tracking error, but I'm guessing that it sacrifices rigidity. OTOH is it any worse in this regard than a unipivot? Battery TT PSU: Tried this once briefly (on the Aura), it was not good to my ears.

Yeah, I'm not convinced by the battery PSU but I think the pulley/belt arrangement makes perfect sense. I did some reading on it last night but didn't find mention of materials for plinth or platter? And granted, in that price range, you wouldn't go there - but I'm slowly cooking up a plan for a diy table and that pulley system is food for thought... As is the general aesthetic.

try the well tempered aesthetic. a big, smooth and silent motor a simple, high quality flat belt wt reduced any adverse belt effects by simply applying a half twist to the belt as it comes off the platter. no need for any heath robinson mechanical diversions
