Still waiting on a new arm board but in the meantime hooked it up with a bit of blue tack, and a make shift armboard.

Finger lift still in box, couldn't be bothered to attach yet as just using an alu bodied Denon 103R at the moment.
Used my Dr Feikert protractor. But have just checked using the 2 bits of cardboard and they all align nicely.

I don't remember my Denon 103R sounding this good before!
Still a bit plumby in the lower bass, but so clear and solid in the midrange where it mostly happens. Nice big sound, wide and open, dynamic, upfront sound.

Since installing this arm I now notice a clicking/surge when no record is playing, but only on the right channel.
Needle on the dials goes from rest/silent -60db to about -45db in pulses. But only on the right channel.
Checked leads at cartridge, and phono. Swapped leads from right to left and still on the right.
Any ideas on where it's coming from and how to solve?

Check all the many breaks in the arm wiring,
Especially the pins at the headshell/arm join and the DIN at the bottom of the arm.
Still running the stock (VDH ?) arm cable ?

The issue goes away when I move a damn LED lamp!
When installing the arm I moved my lamp closer for better lighting and had left it there. A variable I had forgotten about.
Rookie mistake..

Well done ! One reason I don't use a modern energy saving lamp - save a few cents at the expense of other problems

Can I ask ... for a friend ... did you get the noise only when the offending light was switched on? Or off, too?
Cheers, Dom ... sorry, I mean, Dom's friend.

Try unplugging it completely ?
Might still have power going through it even "off"

Well actually, while the bulb is off, its not off off. More like standby, as it's a smart lamp with wi-fi.

New arm board from George Merrill was going to cost about NZ$1200 landed. So decided to use/sacrifice my Schroeder armboard instead. Due to cable angle/configuration I can't quite get the arm high enough to accommodate my Pure Sound Tenuto gun metal platter mat. Could possibly do more drilling but the material is damn hard and takes forever to drill out, and arm is finally screwed in.

I did a bit of experimenting, and no difference with light bulb on or off. Still pulsates.
Power supply disconnected from lamp and wire held next to head amp (with power still attached), and a bit of pulsating but not as much as if lamp next to it.
Lamp moved away from Gram Slee Elevator EXP head amp results in no discernable pulsating.

I thought I remembered seeing the EXP uses a thing called a video amplifier. Whether that's the case or not. You could try a different phono - except it'd obviously have to be capable of amplifying a small mc signal. B-}
