SGT PEPPER’S MUSICAL REVOLUTION Prime Rocks Special Tuesday July 4 – 8:35pm Wrapping up Prime Rocks and celebrating the 50th anniversary of The Beatles’ landmark album Sgt Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band, don’t miss Prime Rocks: Sgt Pepper’s Musical Revolution. This documentary explores the album as it was first experienced by its audience at the time: exciting, new, bold and revolutionary. It’s a landmark in twentieth century music, considered by many critics and music lovers as the greatest album ever made. Hosted by leading British composer Howard Goodall, uncover the footage and audio never before accessed outside of Abbey Road: the studio chats between the band, out-takes, isolated instrumental and vocal tracks, and passages from alternative takes of these world-famous songs. We discover how the nuts and bolts of the album came together, and the important insights of the choices made by not only the band, but the four individuals, each with their own musical tastes and ambitions.

Prime Rocks had an excellent 2019, 2-part (1 hour each) doco last night entitled Punk. Excellent for starters because it was (part) Executive-produced by none other than Iggy Pop (also amusingly & charismatically chatting to camera) I gather ( Rolling Stone magazine) that this was a 4-part TV doco series. Nicely shot new interview footage contributions from such Punk Rock luminaries as: John Lydon (Sex Pistols), Dave Grohl (Nirvana, Foo Fighters), Debbie Harry and Chris Stein, Marky Ramone, Wayne Kramer (MC5), Jello Biafra (Dead Kennedys), Duff (Guns N’ Roses), Flea (Red Hot Chili Peppers). The 2 parts last night were focussed on the US scene (MC5, The Stooges, The Ramones, New York Dolls, Blondie, etc) & then the later UK scene (Sex Pistols, The Clash, The Damned, Buzzcocks... this part I had to miss unfortunately). Keep an eye open for possibly the remaining 2 parts next Weds.

I watched the 2 episodes of Punk last night, and although the Punk wave passed me by, I thoroughly enjoyed them. I hope we get the next 2 in the series. Well worth watching. John Lydon came across as a real hard case.

I thought The Sound of The Albert's was worth watching.
