Re buying ultrasonic cleaners off EBay, in fact buying anything off EBay, payment is usually via Pay Pal. I understand you need to register with Pay Pal to make it work. Anyone with experience of this have advice? Any fish-hooks, issues I need to be aware of? My housemate has nothing but negative comments about Pay Pal, having tried to use it to buy something many years ago, then giving up in disgust!

all the horror stories are true !
however you do not have to signup to buy things with paypal.
you can pay with your credit card like a regular transaction.

I have used it over a few years, for smallish purchases largely, no major problems - it's fast & you have invoice communication with the seller. It's the only game in town, unless you want to give out your credit card no. every time, for one-off purchases. I haven't checked lately, what their exchange rates are like, compared with Visa card - but both clip the ticket. They take a hefty fee (4.5%?) - for a refund credit I received once. They make their money mainly off commercial seller's fees, I think. For v large value purchases, it may be less costly & more secure to use Internat Money Transfer through your bank.

I have been using Pay Pal for several years for purchases from ebay and Aliexpress with no problems whatsoever. As Owen has stated it is preferable to providing your credit card number to all and sundry.
