Kings Birthday weekend sale noted while I was downtown in Queen Street Auckland today, the inner city bus stop right outside JB-HiFi near Wellesley St. Had 10 minutes to spend so looked around ... I'm astonished by the prices of new LPs, also that they make CDs look relatively cheap. But I've also been looking at getting a new monitor, two recent hand-me-down or $1 TM 24" ones (which just fit on the desk under the first shelf above) have gone blurry, bouncing with grey-white drop or side shadows between what should be sharp edged black and white text... I suspect failing capacitors, because it's like ringing on what should be a sharp square wave transition from white to black, but I think it might be too much work to rework them. And it's similar to what's happening with my eyes on paper text, so double the nuisance. Anyway I see that Rubber Monkey has the same Samsung and another brand 24" curved monitor as standard price below the JB big discount sale price! Oops I think I was looking at Mighty Ape for those monitors, although both have two different but similar Samsung ones. I sometimes watch videos sitting close up at my desk, so I'd thought the curved ones might be interesting. I'm not so sure about them for plain text forums and web pages though!

I have to correct myself, zero in on extra data, being an ex-librarian;- we like to provide accurate data, correct mistakes ~ maybe summarise for quoting later too.
JB HiFi had this that I saw in store today, for $248 ($131 off!):
Earlier I'd seen these two from Mighty Ape, $249 and $229, respectively. Both will just fit between my desk and shelf.
(a different stand, different monitor, I need to analyse the specs, what are the differences? And gaming monitors, what do they mean? ;-})
Also looks good and interesting.
Either would be my first new monitor ever;- I've only had s/h ones, whether gifts or by TM before this. Just as a PC monitor on a desk in a confined space that has a sat sub system on the shelf above... :great fun.
Any other ideas opinions or comments?
I might just take a punt.
Cheers !!! ;=})
[Edit: I forgot the rubber monkey offering, for just $205.85 ...]

Didn't know she had a new album ! Will have to go couch diving for spare change
Maybe not...
Rickie Lee Jones, from Chicago, Illinois, wonderful singer and musician, in business since '79 and winner of two Grammy Awards, returns to the international record market with her fifteenth album, Pieces Of Treasure. Inside ten covers standards taken from the Great American Songbook.
imho the GAS has been done to death...

Don't understand the $2 P&P charge. It cant cover costs so why not just make it free?

Spent a least a hour searching their stock and still can't find anything I want. Their cd stock is pretty dismal these days☹️

Dismal and poorly laid out.
Even the staff can't find things !

I find in each JB that the (amazing selection of) vinyl is so jammed into the racks I cannot be arsed. Also, the front ones are usually all damaged as a result.
|
Post by michaelw on Jun 4, 2023 17:03:23 GMT 12
Noticed that too, though little signs of damage here. There's so much new vinyl that my local JB now has three tiers of storage - the main bins, secondary shelving below the bins and baskets full of records at ground level. It makes searching for something even more fun !

JB Queen Street pack their shelves too.
I always have to remove a bunch first so that flicking through is easier.

And this is the only way I'm buying any new Dylan.
His LPs are on average $20 more than most new releases I buy - double LPs included. I'll wait til 20 years they're in the bins. I've bought all the others that way except Love and Theft.

Streams sounded great, so a no brainer.
The pirated stream I found posted on YT within a day or so of the event got taken down in a day, so that was just luck.
However I had wondered about its audio - and video - quality. Whether it was re-compressed in its upload, what quality stream parameters in the original paid for live streaming event, etc.
I'd downloaded it with one of the several YT/DL extensions at best available. Talking with a friend reminded me to inspect it with MediaInfo.
Now there's a download and streaming version coming out tomorrow our time, who knows in what formats?
Except that it's already in advance (in the US) on AppleTV+, iTunes etc.
And PBS.
Likely others.
But there is a 30s trailer on YT, which I was able to download in full HD since I'd paid a cheap one-off sub to one of them.
MediaInfo on that shows:
[Update:- also the 1st track, also from the official channel: When I Paint My Masterpiece but audio with a cover picture.
MediaInfo sez
So same audio quality as the video stream trailer.
It'll be interesting to see what quality levels on what platforms will be available tomorrow. Will it include physical media, or will those be a later release. A 4K Blu-ray with great sound might be nice? Wonder what it was filmed in?
(Not that I even have a BR or 4k TV.)
I'll wait and see. The stream was great, so theatrical. I'd love to experience it in best AV quality! Love the smoky drinky club atmosphere, a nod to the conid with apparent musicians wearing masks...
Evidently though it's good enough to show in theaters. I'd even found a link to a members only cinema viewing.
Cheers!
