A few gargoyles sitting on top of those heat sink columns would set it off nicely ?

Americans seem to go gaga over MacIntosh gear. Is it because of country of origin or do they have the goods? Don't think I've ever seem any, definitely not heard and out of my price range.

Is McIntosh now the Harley Davidson of audio? Citroen? (AFAIK they originally built their name on good solid & innovative American engineering - eg. most notably the Unity Coupled tube output circuit.)

I've never heard one either but i'd put them into the HD category. Another of those brands which seem to engender huge brand loyalty like ARC, Luxman, Krell. Well out of my price range unfortunately. Notice that their on screen product placement has been increasing in recent times though.

Definitely a bit 'Goth'.... 😋 I love the tone controls. I imagine that it makes room eq'ing so much easier.

And in USA they work out about half the price we pay here in NZ. e.g US5500 converts to about NZ14000 here. Shipping these heavy things costs a lot!

Never thought of using tone controls for room EQ.....

I've been looking to upgrade my amp for about 5 years now in the $5-10,000 bracket. Then some Mac's came up for sale at a price I just couldn't pass up. I could never justify NZ retail prices for them (about twice US prices). Apart from wishing the power amp had a bit more juice, I couldn't be happier.

Never thought of using tone controls for room EQ..... My speakers have tone controls. Helps smooth out those bass peaks and troughs.

HD meaning Harley Davidson. I suppose the put refers in part to their motorcycles: lots of chrome, but ponderous and not known for going round corners very well. Though even Harleys have evolved markedly over the last few years with models such as the V rod being a lot more capable ?
Would happily own a MAC were I affluent enough to afford one. NB Saw Quite a few second hand ones in Singapore.

Having seen quite a few Harleys come and go through our workshop over the years, and ridden several, I'd hope the Mac amps are of a better standard.

And such great prices too! AV World have the Rotel new for $4699 and he's asking $5000 for a two year old one. At least his asking price of $15500 for the McIntosh is less than NZ RRP$17999
