Afternoon all. Trust you're all safe. We got off very lightly compared to friends of ours here in Hastings who have lost everything material wise . My question...
I blew up my AR drivers in the garage-- still to sort out what's wrong with my 2150B. Anyhow, the water got into my birdroom and the JPW's now have swollen cabinets.
Is it possible to fit, well it's possible because I checked, but what difference if any would fitting the Sonatas drivers into the AR boxes make? The AR boxes are a bit narrower with a little less volume, otherwise the drivers will fit nicely.
Bit less bass maybe, which wouldn't worry me?
Didn't pay a lot for the Sonatas but they are nice sounding speakers. Thanks
PS I bought some Frugel Horn Mk3's on TMe.with 4.5 inch FE126En Fostex drivers. Very different to my Image 412/2's, but quite nice to listen to. I will persevere with them.. Having the Rel sub helps with the bass.

JPW speakers used Audax or Vifa drivers and most were bass reflex. They were made in Her Majesty's prison service! AR used their own drivers and their speakers were infinite baffle. It would be safe enough to put the Vifa / Audax drivers in a closed cabinet and give them a bit of welly. Whether or not they would be bass deficient could then be determined. I think you would find them good enough.

Thanks Peter. The JPW is a sealed cabinet as well. I'll give it a go. If it doesn't work out I can always build new boxes for the JPW's. They're only for the garage anyhow. Or maybe the granddaughter if she wants to upgrade from the basic all-in-one LP player we gave her for her 14th birthday. Makes my skin crawl seeing her playing LP's on it!! No bass at all. She's really into her LP's. I need to get her round here more so she can hear a decent system. Do have a spare amp ready for that day, but until she wants it...........
Just don't like seeing audio things wasted!

That worked well. Not having the drivers in the original boxes I don't know if the bass is different, but they sound great, even compared to my 412/2's. Managed to stick the tweeters onto the original tweeter panel,so glad I kept the panel.
The Acoustic Research AR M1 Holographic Imaging Speakers were liked by HP of the Absolute Sound mag, so a bit sorry they karked it.
