Hi

I have an Origin Live Illustrious Mark IV tone arm. It's a lovely high performing thing.

It takes Half-inch type cartridges. Does that well, and easily especially with the protractor I use.

I've been given an Ortofon SPU SME type cartridge. (https://www.ortofon.com/hifi/cartridges-ranges/spu/)

Does anyone know if I can get hold of an adaptor of some sort so I can mount the SPU on the Illustrious?

As ever I do copious amounts of research and have turned up nothing. Grateful for any assistance!

Looks like a good excuse for a second arm...

It would be some sort of Frankenstein adapter if it existed!

You should be able to detach the cartridge from the headshell.

I'm aware of that route, however, what I love is the head shell... I know, I'm vain, frivolous and light weight. I want the head shell mounted on my Illustrious.

The SPU without it's glorious headshell is a bit like an Hermit Crab out of it's shell!

Second arm - no as I'd have to make a second pod for the Breve.

Can't even imagine how an adapter would work.

Change out your arm for an SME compatible one ?

That's been my problem, I've done lots of research and cannot find anything.

I suspect this is a non-starter and will have to give up on the idea.

What you need is a female international SME adapter that has connections to your 4 wires from the Origin at the rear end.
Mountable like a cartridge. This doesn't exist afaik.

The SPU would then insert into this.

The whole thing would stick out a lot so a lot of adjustments for overhang etc.

Not going to happen. So yes a non-starter.
