Anyone had any bad experiences with cartridges? This could be anything from they sounded so bad you had to immediately remove it from your system, or like me recently, you dropped it and the cantilever sheared off! And so my Delos is no more...

Nothing really serious. About 20 years ago I purchased my first entry level audiophile cartridge, a Grado. Can't remember which and can't remember if it was a Technics deck or the Michelle Focus One. I do remember it had the dreaded Grado hum. Started quietly at the outer edge of the lp and was humming to the rafters as it neared the dead wax. Apparently a not unknown problem I later discovered.
Gave up after a couple of days and returned and swapped for a Sumiko Black Pearl.

Forgot a few years ago that my FR arm didn't lower slowly after using the SME for a while. Flicked the lever forward and my Garrott Decca Gold dropped onto the LP, only to skate inwards! Still haven't found the diamond!

Hey little French car..
As suggested above..check your contents insurance. I "lost" the cantilever from my Dynavector XV1 a few years back. Put in a claim with the insurance and ended up with a Lyra Etna as a replacement as the Dynavector couldn't be sourced. Needless to say I'm well pleased. Even with most contents excesses being factored in it well may be worth a claim.
All the best.

Claim has already been lodged, and John from The Real Music Co. has been very helpful.
Just waiting to hear back from the insurance company.

I loaned a Garrard GT-35P to a friend, with a modest but new at the time cartridge. Returning it relatively unused, he forgot to secure the arm in its arm rest. The stylus skated wildly across the platter, inevitably. Nice pipe bend! ;=}) I'll bring up the GT-35P in a later thread, because to set the stylus tip/cartridge up it used a now almost unobtainable, or expensive on eBay, plastic gauge, and doesn't give the distance in the manual. Using the data provided I still got odd conflicting results with the vinylengine tools. But that aside, a quite nice lightweight arm. Something to return to later. Since then, I've tentatively put a Stanton 600EE on it. Sounds good, but I'd like to be sure I have it set up correctly. Another topic. I also have an Ortofon X3-MC with a bent cantilever, worsened by attempting to straighten. Not sure how that can be repaired.
