I just picked up a project rpm tt. It came with a basic cart but I'm planning on replacing with a 2m blue or something similar.
I have been reading a few pages on the net about having needle scales, cartridge alignment tools etc etc. Any advice on all of this stuff. How deep do I need to go?
Cheers

Hi - I have several turntables and while you can spend a lot of money and a lot of time getting something perfect I find I keep doing back to these two simples tools: www.ortofon.com/stylus-pressure-gauge-scale-p-279and Mobile Fidelity (MFSL) Geodisc Cartridge Alignment Tool They both look too simple to work but I find they are accurate and quick to use. Good luck!

If you can push for a 2M Bronze, it’s a great cartridge.

Thanks for all the advice team. I'll digest this over the next few days.

If you can push for a 2M Bronze, it’s a great cartridge. Plus 1. The Blacks great too, but whatever you do don't get that awful Red!

Agree with the 2M Black being great too, it’s what I use for MM reference on the 301. It’s very lively and is capable of detail on a forensic level. From what I’ve heard though, the more cost-effective stylus on the Bronze suits more records while still maintaining the 2M family sound. The Red is a bit crude to my ears, but lively enough. I’ve not heard the Blue properly.

The late Gary Morrison used the Ortofon 2M Blue when fine tuning the PureAudio VINYL phono preamp for MM. He told me that when he sold me the bench test VINYL. But I’ve not heard the Blue. I auditioned theBronze and the Black. Both excellent, but bought the Black.

Came with a cheapie at cart might as well have come with nothing. Is the red really as bad as people are making out? Happy to spring to blue or bronze will be doing a bit of reading on weather it's worth it with my current system to spring bronze

Red sounded too bright to me, but could be a good match in some systems.

Came with a super basic at3600. Was running that on my previous tt. Very basic. I'll have a good play about and et it up on this when the time comes. But will be wanting to replace with at least what it was designed with (red) or something better.
