Never heard of that series from them. I keep returning to my Sugden PA-4 phono despite trying some very good designs from other manufacturers (such as Pure Audio).

I've had, over the years (and really enjoyed), an A48, A21 (old and modern), and A21SE. Sugden amps remind me a little of a Penfolds Bin 389 - warm and on the slightly sweeter side of neutral, but with plenty of power, drive and depth (for a low power rated SS integrated). They always made me want to keep listening to just one more track.

And the 389 is really a mini Grange...which for the money is just outright theft!! 389 on thevothr hand is just wonderful!

Back in the day I reviewed the Master Class IA-4 integrated amp and PDT-4 cdp. A very sweet sounding combo but not enough grunt for the Maggies I was using at the time.

Is that 07 Grange from your cellar Michael? Better not let Marc Taddei see that... I've only had a couple of Granges in the past, that a friend kindly opened at New Years (back when they were $200, not $900+). They were still tannic monsters at about 12 years old on opening, so keeping them cellared for 20 or more years, was the only option.

What do you have to feed Maggies with? not so much as big power but power with control, most tubes won't cut it, need solid state muscle to control the Maggie's bottom end

Out of my price range, got given a bottle many years ago.
It comes out of it's hidey place now and then to be admired.

Drinking now, however drinking to after 2030 so you do have time. Be careful, I assume you do not have it in proper temperature controlled storage? At around $750 bucks a bottle take good care of it.
If you want to drink it, then serve with food and let the wine be the star of the show, serve with simple food - burgers are good! Wagyu beef, venison as well. Take care with acid flavours - not too much!

Agree with respect to 1.6's, a solid state Cambridge Audio 100W amp just was not up to it. Plinius 8150 was much better but bass still plummy.

Strangely enough I observed this last Tues 17th while heading for the cheaper wines at Countdown Ponsonby. Pic from my old iPhone 4S.
(I've found Cleanskin 14% Wine of Moldova Cab Merlot quite acceptable, and even the ditto 14% SA Shiraz.)

Forget tubes, even the Jadis DA60 wasn't up to it.
Maybe a big ass VTL,
Krell, some Jeff Rowland was good
Select Rotel, NAD if on a budget
