Have been using an Arcam CD82 as my best cd player, with a nice sounding Rega Planet for general use. The Rega is easy to listen to, with the CD82 having a more open sound with more detail etc. But a little edgy on the odd cd, which the Rega doesn't do as much.
Anyhow, decided to have a listen to the Cambridge CXC transport through my Arcam irDac2. It is more open with more detail then my CD82, but also a bit brighter, showing up more the edge on the ouchy cds.
So took that back to Sound and Vision in Napier (just a plug for them, have been a great help). Decided to try out the more expensive Arcam CDS50 CD/SACD player, which is a change for me, not really wanting to spend a lot of money on cd players.
Anyhow, I've bought the CDS50. Compared to the CD82, an older machine, the new one is more open and detailed and cleaner sounding. And the great thing is it's made all my cds sound better, and so easy to listen to louder. Especially strings, which I find annoying if too edgy.
Similar to when I hooked up the PureAudio LV1 to my ttable, changing the sound of all my LP's, with a more relaxing listen.
And I get to play my SACDs again too. Will have a fiddle with the network side later.
