What surprised me, are the brands with solid reputations, eg Lenco, Denon, using these cheapos for their low cost tts.

Coincidentally I was passed something similar - a Pioneer <ahem> with a 12V supply (3.5mm plug) needed from its original stack system. Friend complained that it hummed with an alternate 12V supply - it was passed down to her, minus said stack. I sorted the ground loop problem with help from the interweb (well known) - but interim she acquired another similar, has left it with me. TP4 cart, stylus seems OK under microscope. Do I gift it? To a frenemy? Maybe put it up on TM for $1? Quick slack pics from the kitchen bench. It looks pretty similar, perhaps repurposed into Pioneer plastic housing and trim. I couldn't be bothered disassembling again to see if there were any OEM clues.

Poorly made modern records contribute as much to bad sound as those plastic un-fantastic turntables.
They are partners in crime.
RdM; Give it away ? Use it for target practice ?

Look in the pre loved section of the Trademe device and get something semi decent A lot of people looking at this sort of price bracket like to buy new, and don't know any better. And unfortunately that's why Crosley et al thrive! A Trade Me turntable might have all sorts of problems that a newbie just wouldn't know or want to deal with.
