Anyone have his contact details? Aura motor's playing up after I inadvertently left it on overnight. It wasn't spinning the turntable (as it should have been) so I thought it was off but it was actually stuck. And now I can smell signs of burning...

Oh dear. Not something simple like the switch contacts or the phase capacitor? I don’t have any contacts for things Aura sorry.

Maybe. But your talking another language to me, as I have no idea what a switch contact or phase capacitor is! I'm guessing a switch contact is the joins associated with the switch control lever? Previously Chris had swapped out, as he described it "the birds nest of wires" for the PCB board he designed for the motor, at the same time as he replaced the VHS derived Panasonic motor which died 5 or 6 years ago. I hope its not the motor as they no longer make them and are impossible to find.

It’s ok..yes I mean the electrical contacts inside the switch. If you inadvertently leave the switch half on, like it’s stuck mid way the contacts can make erratic contact and arc over, which would burn them. The phase capacitor (not flux capacitor from Back to the Future - that’s just another name for an inductor :-) ) is what you’d find on a Linn but I’m not familiar with what Chris put in the Aura. Do you have a circuit diagram for it, or photos? I might be able to help you diagnose it. Unfortunately Owen isn’t here anymore to help! Perhaps Jeremy might have some info he inherited?

I don't think I've ever seen a schematic for the motor controller. The only pic I can find is this Hopefully I can get in contact with Chris, as it was his design.

Got his number now. Thanks Dave.
Ah yes, I remember Gary's motor build where he tried a totally different Maxon motor and an Origin Live one, with totally new control board. Hopefully I don't need that radical a fix!

How did you go with your Aura, did you manage to get it back up and running?

After the motor cooled down it seemed to behave OK, so fingers crossed it stays that way.
I have noticed that it seems to take a lot longer to get to a stable speed. But once reached is OK.

Like you RdM, the White pages is the first place I look, although many people have ditched their landline that one seems still current.

Actually I'd already had it hand written in an address book - had spoken with him years ago re a pair of speakers he was part designer of - and more recently put a friend in touch with him re an original Cyrus One (cast chassis version) which he not only fixed but converted to Two. may have supplied a PSX as well. I looked through the Useful Contacts thread, couldn't find, looked up White Pages last to confirm ... ;=})
