I am wondering if anyone has a pair of 8-inch or 10-inch subwoofer drivers surplus to needs?
I am wanting to build a pair of small subs because the 15-inch monster I have currently riles the significant other.
Ideally they will work in a small sealed enclosure of around 15-20L.
Cheers

And naturally if there are no 8s or 10s around I'd offer these up for sale at decent prices.

Some nice looking drivers there man. Pity there's nothing 12inch for my Q50... Then again, my budget - or were that my long suffering wife? - will permit no further spending for a while yet... Good luck on the hunt.

Would a 12" driver work? I have a Shiva X2 in a small sealed box and was thinking of buidling a larger ported design so would be happy to upgrade to a 15. I'd be keen on the Tempest.

Sure, I'm interested. I actually have the original subwoofer box I built for the Tempest; it's a downfiring design, built as per Adire's plans. It's not small but you'd be welcome to it as it is just taking up space. It has a hole on one side for a plate amp, and I have that lying around somewhere too! I think it is a Kiega 5250 or some such. 250wpc, peaking at 700 evidently. Can take some pics of both if you're interested. The T/S spec sheet for the Tempest can be found here: bgavinsound.com/Reference/Music/Adire/Tempest%20Datasheet.pdfLet me know a bit more about your sub. And also where are you located? Cheers Peter

Hi Peter - I'm in East Auckland. The box is aprox 400w x 440d x 540h which is a little smaller than the minimum recommended for the driver as I was working to WAF when I built it originally. Since moved and that's not an issue now. Running a Hypex DS 4.0 amp which I'd hang on to. Is the Tempest an X or X2? Cheers Mark

Hi Harvey No, it is the original Adire Tempest. Non-XBL version, as per the images.

Thanks Peter, apologies for the ignorance I'm not that familiar with the Adire products.
The research I've done suggests that wouldn't justify the change.
I don't know a lot about the Rythmic drivers, would that be an improvement over the Shiva?

Sorry for the delay been out of the country. Honestly, I couldn't tell you from the figures. Not making things any easier, the driver has no markings to say what model it is.
However, it doesnt need to be used specifically with their own amp, this I know. It is a nice design too, much more modern than the original Tempest.
It has the silver aluminium cone, rather than the black cone of the later models, but it isn't that old.
Sorry but not much help on this one!

OK cheers - I think it would be best for me to stick with the Adire.
Good luck with your search.

This weekend, we remove the passive radiator and insert the other 10-inch active driver to have a pair in the same enclosure. Will be interesting to earball the outcome compared with one active driver and one PR.

Went the dual driver way, no turning back. Makes some serious bass for such a tiny enclosure, around 1 cubic foot or 28.3L. It just needs a fair amount of power is all. Can hardly even see it behind the speakers. But have another 15-inch sub project on the go. Just cant seem to help myself.

In series or parallel, luigi?

Each 4 ohm driver has dual voice coils and I parallel these up.
I have a two-channel sub amp so drive the woofers with a channel to each.
Haven't tried series cos I figured 2 ohms in parallel mode gets more power to each driver.
Only a hunch though, not sure of whether the theory is correct. Amp never gets beyond mildly warm.
Great bass for such a tiny enclosure, and the Dayton Ref stuff is amazing value.
Each time I go Stateside I get something sent to my hotel and simply take an oversize bag to check in coming back.
Next time one of their 1000wpc sub amps I'm thinking.
