We have recently been discussing sub's thread HIFi & hearing aids.
The following short film is about a man in USA who has been completely deaf since 8 years old.
However, Bob Lichtenberg is an audiophile music-lover who has developed a very sensitive way of listening to music by feeling the vibrations from his loudspeakers through his hands holding a helium-filled mylar plastic balloon. (Many deaf people use air balloons, apparently.)
He says the although his ear mechanism is non-functional, the 'auditory cortex is still functional' & that listening by using his fingers on a vibrating balloon, is 'the same mechanics', its 'just a different pathway' to his brain.
Although he is unable to 'hear' every nuance or detail, he is sensitive enough to discern a change in cables, moreso than many audiophiles.
This film is also a tribute to former STEREOPHILE writer Art Dudley. Bob Lichtenberg was a fan of Art's writing & has ended up, via John De Vore, using Art Dudley's Altec Flamenco loudspeakers.
It looks like Lichtenberg also uses a VPI TT with Groovemater 12" tonearm & a Denon DL-103 cartridge.
