So 4 MAXELL UDII 60 casette tapes sold for $1.50 (& post) and from the same vendor 14 mins later 3 of the same sold for $9.50.
I looked, but still have a stash of TDK SA90, and other lesser tapes, let it go.
Still in to really good cassette machines, Sony ES, and happy to make even ferric tapes for a friend who only has tape in his ancient car.
Cassette tapes may still have some places in peoples lives?

Yes indeed, if you have a nice deck, they are still worthwhile - and frequently containing great memories from the 70s & 80s - time capsules.

Exactly, Owen, I have great stuff recorded off the tuner, fastest thing available to switch to at the time, long great shows from the eclectic 95bfm.com/ and other LPFM stations here in Auckland. Sunday afternoon shows, from jazz through other to Border Radio (which my friend liked) can be great listening over the airwaves. [Eek! But just now it sounds like nasty rap, I'm not sure what happened! This is most unusual!] I wouldn't recommend it at all after all!

The cassette tape was certainly improved upon from Dutch engineer Lou Ottens original vision, with the development of chrome and metal tapes, and really high tech cassette decks that outperformed domestic RTR tape decks in terms of wow flutter and frequency response, I gather, believe, understand?

Those were used and a later, not particularly good, formulation. The prices were fair. The best cassettes were largely from the late 70s, early 80s. I've got some NOS TDK and Maxells stashed away

what a rip ! anything that modern with "for CD" or similar allusions to CD are mediocre 100min tapes were a a lucky dip - thinner tape, more prone to damage.

Yes, the 100 min tapes were always a compromise but quite handy for recording some albums.
I usually only bought TDK D60 and 90's by the bucket load when overseas, as Tower Records and the like had them at almost half the price you could get them for in NZ at the time (80's/90's).
Occasional SA, but budget or equipment quality could never stretch to SA-X, or MA/MA-X tapes

80's, 90s were the glory days of trips to Hong Kong.
Many hours spent comparing prices, usually only saving a few NZD, often forgetting where shops were.
I usually bought a box or three of TDK, Maxell chromes

vintagecassettes.com/tdk/tdk_files/tdk_type/tdk_sa.htmI sold a lightly used box s/h box of 10 (typewritten labels, obscure library) for ~ $70 back in 2017, I see, on TM history. They would have been from the 87-89 era in the link above. Blue and white. I still have some 8 unused out of 10 of perhaps a later type that I can't reconcile with that link, maybe pics later. Also a few TDK SA-X 100. I didn't find any problem with them on my cassette decks. Both Sony, details later if needed. I used to buy from Marbecks in Auckland, late 80's or more early 90's. Also quite a few cheapest of the range Sony Metal-XR. And how quiet that tape was; I could walk the length of the lounge, drop in a cassette of say John Zorn's Spillane (impossible to find on YouTube) in front of guests, who would be expecting tape hiss to start in, but no, returning to the couch, in 15 or so seconds out of black silence, that scream! Ah, memories... (I mean it seems impossible to find the full album, or more to the point that first track, leading into the jazzy first side.) Come to think of it I have a fairly extensive John Zorn collection, but it's quite eclectic, from very mellow to Jewish jazz to hardcore noise. Buyer beware! ;=)}
