if a buyer can get the Martin Logan Theos for about $4k, no need to open the wallet wider

I thought the Thiels looked reasonable if you had a preference for cones ?

I hadn't drilled down far enough to see the Thiels, had to search. Presumably you mean these?
At least they have sculpted baffles! So many of the higher priced speakers above are still in a box with sharp edges! I see Stereophile reviews:
They still seem to have some limitations, but you are thinking reasonable for price?
As for electrostatics, above,- and the Spires do look more impressive than the Theos pair - would anyone in the know, with experience care to comment on Martin Logan vs Magnepan?
Magnepan 1.7 passed in here at $2495.
I have a friend in Raglan with an 80yr old house, quite a large lounge, that after 15? 25? years he is looking to renovate, particularly the lounge, put in a stereo system... it's a long shoe box room with old villa high ceilings, but glass deck entrance doors at the narrow end, the other end he wants to open up to the kitchen behind that wall somewhat, an opening.
Maybe make it like a private bar. I already sent him links on the Japanese bars. He's a visual artist, so already even the old place looks good, but no real sound system yet, just a small sub-sat system on a desk from a laptop.
I might be asked for advice ...
Cheers, and thanks!

I have had both maggies and MLs but am not au fait with either companies current models. They do sound quite different to each other though.

Thanks! Obviously the TM offerings are at least a few years old. Maggie seems to say they don't believe in needing extra bass support, ML that it is well integrated. ML site list of models is bewildering, no idea what is latest. How would you describe the differences? ;-

I recall walking past a room in Soundline in Newmarket back in the day and they had a set of Theil speakers on the end of a Plinius amp. The music literally drew me into the room. Up until then I was quite happy with my Rotel 9 Series and Kef Q90 combo but that sound stuck with me and set me off on a slippery slope I've never managed to get off.
Those are my old Theos speakers I sold before Xmas. Fantastic speaker but not enough rock'n roll for my liking. Can put anyone in touch with the seller if they want.
