75-year-old Keith Jarrett recently told the New York Times, in a first update in nearly 2 years after cancelling concerts in 2018, that he suffered the strokes in February and May of 2018 & that it is unlikely he will ever perform in public again. Jarrett below, in '72: See also thread - Jarrett's longtime bassist, Gary Peacock, died this year.

I tried to get into “The Köln Concert” in the 70s, but I didn't get it. I still have the album, in recent years my 'biorhythms' & patience maybe have slowed down enough to appreciate his work - a bit.

Ditto.
I still have an early 80's ECM concert on a single LP, early 80's digital recording didn't do his style any favours.

I only have 1 'For Miles' tribute cd (ECM 1993?) Keith Jarrett Trio - but gained an appreciation from that. Bought it from PQ.

Had the Koln concert on an e cm lp, and couldn’t get into it. Sold it in 2010 when I retired and downsized. From memory it was bought by an Audioenz member. I do have something else with his playing on it, but can’t bring it to mind right now!

Just picked up the 2LP ECM version of the Koln concerts recently. I quite like it in a Goldberg variation type of vibe, A bit of a mission to listen to 4 sides of it in one sitting. Not sure if his strokes would really have much effect on his playing of piece tbh.

He can play only with his right hand & his musical memory has been badly affected - IIRC.

Do you mean perhaps his muscle memory ?

I have a very original German ECM copy of this fabulous piece.
Perhaps the problem with it is that its not "classical" and its not traditionally jazz. So people seem confused? I dunno...
But it has a repetitive pulse throughout that engages me. I love this piece!

I have the German ECM copy as well, like Cartridgeguy I couldn't get through all 4 sides in one sitting but when in the right mood it is really engaging to listen to (whiskey helps), other times I'll give it a spin and think nah not working for me.

Sad situation for Keith Jarrett and his fans. I think it was Citroen who commented you have to be 'in the mood' for many of ECMs offerings. I find Jarrett/Koln like that and perseverance is rewarded. I'm also in the camp where his (attempted) vocalising/humming within songs, REALLY pisses me off. That said, the Jarrett/Charlie Haden albums: 'Jasmine' and 'Last Dance' are wonderful and my 'Jarrett' favourites.
