Just saw one of these bowl up on tm. Anyone on here?
Thoughts on it. I'm not overly familiar but could be a good look. Also. Of someone is gonna bid let me know so we arent competing!

Was regarded as one of Pro-Ject's most successful TTs I believe. Possibly will upgrade nicely with better cartridges.

I had an RPM5, with a Goldring GX1006/1012/1042 stylus.
Lovely deck. I ran mine with a Speedbox for improved stability and convenience. Not sure what the difference is with the 5.1. I see that RRP for the 5.1 was $1699 with Ortofon 2M Blue at The Listening Post.

Yeah hard to say given the new price is about 1300. I wouldn't want to go too much higher than 650 esp if the cartridge is a few years old too

The catch being that the Ortofon OM5e was a budget cartridge when it was introduced 30 odd years ago. I recall the comments at the time being that the OM10 was a HiFi cartridge whereas the OM5 isnt....
Have had recent experience of one myself on a dual turntable I had here for servicing. Yes they are truly dreadful. You can upgrade the stylus but its an expensive process. The OM20 transforms the cart but adds $300 to the cost. Better to factor in the cost of a change of cart imho.
Or to save your money and buy something better in the first place ? That well Tempered Simplex caught my eye at $1K, which would seem to be good buying ?

WT Simplex at $1k? Where? 😀 Now that's really good buying!
I grew up with the Ortofon OM10 as it was the standard budget cart in its day.
The OM20 was smooth and more refined. And cost about $25 way back then...

Yes the OM10 was the budget cartridge of their day. The OM20 was and still is a huge improvement, (I even preferred it to the Om30 and OM40 back in the days when I used to care about these things...), but with the current price of replacement stylii they dont make economic sense imho.

Tia I haven't seen the listing... but I own an RPM 5.1 with an Ortofon 2M Red cart that I'm not using. I have the box but not the top polystyrene... apart from that it's all good.

Haven't you got enough turntables ?
For every $1k WT
There are dreamers like overpriced Linns
And less than pristine Technics
