These '3rd Generation' BEYERDYNAMIC T1 (open back) & T5 (closed back) 'high-end' headphones, look like a top choice in the US1k range (US$999). According to Steve Guttenberg AUDIOPHILIAC: They improve on the previous generation BEYERDYNAMICs in the areas of 'bass 'slam', weight, openness & 'dynamic life' (the T1). Of course they easily surpass the 'entry-level' standard of the well-known SENNHEISER HD650 (US$399) - " more dynamic impact, low end grunt, the high-end is far more refined sounding & clear...." " In the same league " (except bass) as the AUDEZE LCD-X (US$1199), but the BEYERDYNAMICs are much lighter weight (almost 50%) & thus more comfortable. " Just an all-round terrific headphone. " (BEYERDYNAMIC T1) The T1 sounds attractive

Compared to my other 'phones (AKG, Grado, Yamaha and Sennheiser), driver tube rolling is more discernible with these Beyer T90's. I'd like to listen to this next generation - but doubt this will be possible in NZ?

foveaux - that Mapletree tube h'ph amp is interesting in that it drives low impedance (32 Ohm?) Beyerdynamics. I see that Rapallo AV in Akld list Beyerdynamics, incl. the T1 Gen 3s - I'm sure that deano1974 would be pleased to discuss.

With the Mapletree, a musical combo I'm super happy with. (aside: of course the combo to die for is Cooksferry's Yamamoto HA-02 [Single ended Class A pentode tube amplifier using 408A tubes] with his Audio Technica W1000s, both have stunning japanese timber finish and musical synergy)Sorry deano1974, no need/desire for me to upgrade the T90s yet (thanks for the tip-off Owen )
