Perhap's not in your eyes or mine! However the buyer bid that sum, and I'll bet he and the seller are happy.

One went for $900 a while ago.
Others usually around the $500 mark

Which were prone to cracking IIRC. Just goes to show that things are worth whatever someone is prepared to pay for them.

Probably heat generated inside without adequate ventilation, with possibly unsealed inner wood surfaces. I have 2 x Jarrah wood chasses like this with tube ccts in them, for 22 yrs with absolutely no sign of wood movement.

lack of ventilation and inconsistency of production of the wooden body meant a return to a conventional steel chassis.

PS. These boxes were made by a chap named Albert, who was doing wood-work for Smith Sound when I met him, at Smith's Mt Eden Rd 'villa' shop - way back in late 90s(?). Jarrah is v hard & dense, v heavy boxes. Many Oz woods are harder than any NZ timber. Why did Plinius not choose a NZ timber? Broader appeal over in AU? I dunno.

Yup, for more info, see P6 of The Wand thread. (Hope no-one suggests it is a "Plynius")
